3.0?

Just looking over my new to me 99 SVTC to get ready for tune up and gaskets but I remember the PO saying that the car may have been upgraded to a 3.0 at some point in time. How can I determine this?

Those are 2.5 valve covers. But there are lots of ways to make a 3.0 upgrade. Easy to put a 3.0 block in and keep the 2.5 heads/top end.

Normally there is a casting "ear" next to the alternator that needs to get sawed off in order to put a 2.5 alternator on a 3.0 block. I guess that's where I'd start looking.

I'd say the dipstick is a give away. The 2.5 was a straight bar and the 3l the loop pull.

The PO said the same thing about the dipstick. Hmmmm, so it may just have the 3.0 huh?! Does your 98 SF have the same dipstick squeek

From the angle of the stick. Either a mpv or an escape motor.

That only has relevense if they used a 3L oil pan and dipstick. Which you shouldn't do ideally.

Yeah you can't go by the dip stick. My portmatched 3L has a 2.5L oil pan, pickup tube, windage tray, and dip stick.

3.0 maybe? Also more pics of this godawful alternator job and previous owner broke y pipe screw ups. I didn't recall hearing any leaks with I will keep an eye out for them.

Still no way to tell from any of these pictures if it is a 3L.
