  • Miss/power loss

I have a 2000 CSVT with a 3L in it. We put the SVT cams in it, when we did the swap. I have put almost 10,000 miles on it and it's ran like a champ. In the past week, it's been sporadic. Sometimes I start it and it will be missing when cold, but clear up after getting up to temperature. Other times, it's just the opposite and will be fine cold, but starts acting up after it gets warm. While driving it, it don't really feel like a miss. It's more of a power loss, like the fuel or timing is being taken away. I've replaced the TPS, the mass air meter, the IAT sensor and the tps sensor plug. It's not helped a thing. My next options are, crank or camshaft sensors. The cel just showed a low range on the tps, but I've changed it and it didn't help. Any and all help is appreciated.

Check your IMRC controller.. Intake Manifold Runner Control... It's what opens the 2ndaries.. sometimes they act wacky could be on its way out. :)

make sure your plugs/wires are all the way on.

IMRC is completely disconnected right now. I have another one on the way and should be here next week. I've checked the front plugs and wires, not the back ones yet. It's not that kind of feeling though. The miss feels like it when it's idling, but it's not like that while pulling in gear. It's just a power loss. But, it jumps back and forth. You may be WOT and it pull, but then it feels like you go to half throttle or something. That's why I think it's something that controls the fuel or timing.

Removed the back 3 plugs. The one on the drivers side was black, like it hadn't been firing. Replaced it with a new plug and it ran strong, minus the IMRC not being hooked up right now. Did this for about 5 or 6 miles and then went back to the same symptoms. Put 2 more different wires on it, which were used, but still had the same "miss" in it. I can't see those 2, plus my wire, which only has about 8 or 10k miles on it, being bad. This thing is driving me crazy. What's next? I also replaced the cam and crank sensor and they didn't change anything either.

knowledge is power . I gave the links since finding a miss fire has many parts and each has it's own procedure so typing would be long. hope this helps. IMHO never throw parts at a car w/o troubleshooting. I have seen this many times and costs alot of money . it's pretty much like throwing darts. Best of luck . that last link has a few parts to it.

Never change the plugs or wires by themselves on these cars, just about always have to do both together. You need to check the plugs for carbon tracking. If it has happened throw the plugs and wires out and get new ones.

If you have a TPS code, chances are you got the wrong sensor or installed it work. If it was the wrong sensor its now broken. http://contour.org/ceg-vb/forum/how-...n-part-numbers

Thanks for the info guys. I will definitely check into these things, because it's driving me crazy. These wires and plugs only have about 8 or 10k on them. I found out the hard way, when it was still a 2.5, to not just replace plugs. Thanks again for the info. I will order a new TPS and install it properly.

Problem solved. I had a bad injector connector. Actually 2, but only one was causing the misfire. Replaced both while I had the upper intake off and it runs like a champ again. Thanks for all the suggestions.
