Spring Zing 2016

Friday April 15th
Saturday April 16th
Sunday April 17th

I'll try to make this happen.

Time and Location: Weekend of April 15th. Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, Knoxville, TN area.

Currently planning: One excursion will be driving the Dragon / US129. One will be hanging in Pigeon Forge to see the many cars during the Pigeon Forge Rod Run. Another thought is a tour of the multiple moonshine distilleries nearby...

Please sign up in the SZ16 sign-up thread, so that I can get a better count for the hotel discussion.

I'm a little late to the post. I'm not on here all that often lately.

It's cool to have it so close to home this year. I'll be there for some part of it, for sure. I'll get some of the LeMons guys to help me out, and we'll have the 3 race cars (all Contour-based) and my street car there for some portion of the weekend. I am interested in driving the Dragon and Rod Run.

April 15-17 is also the weekend of the Smoky Mountain Air Show. It's the first one TYS has hosted in a long time, and should be really good. The Blue Angels will be the main attraction.

Jim, Thanks for hosting!

Folks. I will need t-shirt sizes for anyone who is coming to SZ16. Also, let me know if there will be any women who desire a shirt when specifying the sizes.

Have narrowed the hotel down to 2 choices, waiting on the contract to be formalized [by Wednesday next week] before announcing. Both are in Gatlinburg, near the Ripley's Aquarium. Group rate will be locked for 4/15 and 4/16. Any dates earlier or later will actually be cheaper than the group price, due to lower demand.

Current planning includes:
Friday: Mid-day - Check-in and meet at Hotel. Evening - Pigeon Forge Rod Run.
Saturday: Early breakfast in Gatlinburg. Leave for "Tour of the Mountains" -- Great Smoky Mountains NP River Road; thru Townsend to the Foothills Parkway; connecting with US 129 for a trip up and over the Dragon; stop at the "Tail of the Dragon" store; connect with the "Moonshiner 28" for part of that road; loop back and run the "Cherohala Parkway" to Tellico Plains; connect with and run TN 360 back toward Maryville, TN befor returning to Gatlinburg for evening meal, fellowship, door prize drawings, awards, and walking tour of Gatlinburg -- including tour of 4 moonshine distilleries [free tastings for legal age folks]. With lunch somewhere in the middle of all that...
Sunday: morning breakfast gathering is optional, but encouraged.

Jim,

I will be arriving late Wednesday to enjoy the area a little bit longer. Do you have plans for Thursday as well, or need help with anything?

Thanks Bob. Not as of now, but you are welcome to stop by my place.

That being said, I have not yet heard of anyone else arriving early.
If anyone IS arriving early, please let me know. I may be able to arrange some early / discounted access to things in the area.

I will be in the area probably from Wednesday night. Planning on getting the tires swapped and to hit the Andrew Johnson site on Thursday. Probably return to Knoxville Thursday evening to meet with some other car people I know doing the Dragon that weekend, and for the less expensive lodging rates.
