Thread: My full oval port 3L thread

    Default Oval port 3L (In progress, need help)

    Well Looks like the cougar should be up and running again hopefully by the end of the month. We will be putting in a full oval port 3L in our 2002 XR coug. Anyways here are a couple lists of parts we are using. Please do comment on anything. Also just so you all know this is the first engine I have ever worked on so I am not very knowlegded on some of this stuff.


    2004 3L with 19k miles

    Engine mod parts:
    -svt cams
    -svt radiator
    -svt oil cooler
    -ceramic coated wrapped msds headers
    -ceramic coated msds y-pipe
    -Magnaflow xl 3 chamber muffler w/ dumpdown after muffler
    -deleted main cat
    -NPG fuel rail mod
    -NPG CAI
    -dmd crank pulley
    -NPG xcal 3 w/tune
    -3L valve covers
    -3L COP
    -3L uim, lim, fuel rail, oval ports

    Transmission mod parts:
    -Quaife limited slip differential
    -Clutchnet 6 puck sprung hub w/ red pressure plate
    -resurfaced svt flywheel

    You should go get the headers ceramic coated.

    They are coated from msds, is that the same thing?

    I never had to extend the TPS wires for my 3L. It was tight but I did get it to reach.

    1) no. u'll just need to cut n splice.
    2) not necessarily. bad fuel mileage, not running optimally... stuff like that.
    3) use the 17#. thats what ur pcm assumes is there.

    yeah. but the coating from msds sucks bigtime. very flimsy. wont hurt to dip it again.

    XR is just the special edition they made in 02, not very many made, has nothing to do with the engine or anything though, just cosmetics. And thanks for the help. If the car is pretty much never going to see any kind of rain or anything ever again do you still recommend coating the headers again, they are brand new btw.

    wouldnt an 02 cougar and the escape both use the newer style knock sensor? should be no need to cut and splice

    1.) You're going to get tons of different opinions on this... I sure as hell wouldn't
    2.) If you don't get a tune yes, use the 17# injectors. But, be warned that you'll be using an injector with a 0º spray angle. The oval-port injectors have a wider spray angle as you may know. Also, i'm not sure that a 17# will support the 3L or not. If you stay out of it and don't drive it much you should be fine though...

    u might be right. i was thinking the taurus one. op, match ur cougar and escape knock sensors up. if they look the same, then they're probably interchangeable.
