Even with a not so impressive 1.80 60ft, a 400whp car should go DEEP into the 12s if not high 11s. We're not talking about unbelievable traction to achieve 1.80, are we ?
I hear you and I agree.

It really has much more to do with the driver.
Very few dedicated efforts here by people who know their way around a dragstrip. The few I've seen haven't had terrible results, but few real efforts.
I can guarantee I can get a Turbo 3L into the 12s and bet you could too.

This thread is why my csvt will be my DD and I will stick with Mitsubishi for the track star. First gen eclipse with $1500 or less in mods can get into 12s. But the csvt is pretty sexy and fun to drive, but you wont see me taking it to the track ever.

Only problem with that is, immense power usually means traction problems even from a roll. I can attest to that after riding in my buddy's turbo S2K last night...and having it break traction easily in 3rd gear.

Is there no way to build up a good auto tranny for these cars? I've seen a good bit of Cobra's swap to auto's to keep from breaking halfshafts in the IRS. The auto uses up a little more power in drivetrain loss, but it soaks up a lot of the drivetrain shock that causes breaking issues...?

I still want to disagree with this. I belive that one day a Contour will break into the 12's, its just a matter of someone dedicating themselves to do it...

Maybe a post Tempo build. 12 second Zetec Turbo.... LMFAO (i think my girlfriend would kill me if i built another car)

So your saying tensile strength of the stock axles is going to be the same as custom chromoly axles?

Im not saying the stock axles will be strong as chromoly axles. consider though that there have been people who have broken DSS stage 2 axles which are made from 4340.
