ive got a check engine light, it scaned out as insuficient egr flow, lean bank one sensor one. my good friend at auto zone said it was my depfi or whatever its called gone bad. what does this thing do and is it possible that its the cause of my problem? also does anyone know where its located on a 98+ non svt duratec? i dont really wana spend the 35 bucks but i need to pass e-check soon and it wont pass with the light on. he told me that he sells a million of these for contours and new cougars. what do you guys think?

get one from a junk yard for 5 bucks. Make sure its plastic not metal. Its located on the rear head behind the intake tube on all V6 Duratecs. When you go to do your emmisions check reset you PCM before you go and the light wont be on. Do it in the parking lot waiting for the test. Im lucky they havent done E-checks for years down here in FL.

This will never work. If you knew anything about emissions testing, you'd know why. Go do some research so you can give better answers in the future.

The OP needs to do some research on his fault codes. Inoperative EGR system (either clogged ports or faulty DPFE sensor, most likely) and a vacuum leak on bank one.

I was gonna say! Here in NY, they actually plug into the car to get the last few fault codes. I was under the impression that removing the battery didn't clear everything! Glad I got a 95. No emission worries here!

Complete ignorance about how a process works is usually a good indicator that you should not give advice about that process. You don't see me giving advice about systems and components about which I have no knowledge, such as the SVT-specific stuff.

Complete ignorance about how a process works ...
Au contraire! svttour was not completely ignorant. If you do not have to deal with OBDII emissions check, it is possible to pass the sniffer test by pulling the fuse just before the test. If your cats are still working but not up to the computer standards (which have been proven by Ford to be way above the standards, hence the reprogramming), and all the state has is sniffer, that method will work. I have done that just before going to the emissions station (when VA did not have OBDII emissions check). Since July 2005, VA switched to the OBDII check method and the mileliminators took care of my issue.

Except for very limited areas, the OBDII test is mandated by federal law (or EPA edict or whatever) instead of any sniffer test.

Thanks for backing me up Tony. I knew I was on somekind of track. Now Ill be waiting for my appology :)

ok now to get back on track, is there anyone in the northeastern ohio area that would happen to have an extra or would let me use theres long enough to determin if its the problem or not? im not asking to buy one, i understand this isnt the place for that. i just have a super tight budget right now and cant afford to even spend the five bucks at a yard if im not absolutly sure im spending the cash on a for sure fix. i have till the 8th to pass and get my plates, if anyone is willing to be so kind as to help me out i would greatly appreciate it. thanks in advance.

i found someone to let me borrow one from there parts car but im not sure if its compatable. its from a pre98 manual trans. mines a 98 auto. also i think mine is plastic and this one is all metal. should i try it anyway or hold out for a post 98, they should be the same thing right?
