This took place this morning when I was getting gas, and went into the station to pay.
-It your car one of those Taurus's with the V8 in it?
-Nope
-Kind of looks like one, my freind just got one
-It is a SVT Contour
-Thing still moves, I bet.
-Yeah, it gets the job done. :laugh:

Always funny to get into these conversations.

90% of the time I do pay at the pump, but this place was only a block and a half from my house and my gas light was on and they don't have pay at the pump. Well, that and I was hungry for a egg, sausage and cheese samich. :)
 
With Ford bringing the Taurus BACK, that will be a conversation that you're gonna remember for a while to come!

Should have played with him and said it was a limited edition M series built buy Ford. :laugh: Confuse the heck out of the poor guy.
 
Happened to me at the Grocery store Saturday. Dude seen/heard the duel exhaust and asked me " Its that a SHO ? " My reply..." Its just a Contour with CSVT exhaust ". He looked up at me and said " Oh well ".
 
Having owned two SHOs and the Contour SVT, I've spent a lot of time driving cars that no one's heard of or understands. Non-car people don't get those cars -- and it's not everyday that you encounter a real gearhead. It's amused me over the years to realize that I have to explain my cars if people are to understand what I'm really up to -- that I operate a wolf in sheep's clothing, not a powder blue Taurus GL.

Interestingly, even non-car folks always want to know what a gearhead drives, so they're quick to ask, and then be puzzled. If I'd said "Mustang," no further explanation would have been required. Everyone knows Mustang. And I love them. But I also love my sleepers. :cool:
 
Even though the Mondeo is very common in Ireland, a well tuned one still turns heads (as people rarely bother to mod them!) I've had the following experiences,

One guy in a gas station demanded I sold it to him after he saw me pull up next to one of the pumps.
Another guy on foot came passed my window when I was parking, asked if it was for sale.
I've had drivers of BMW's/Porsches (911 & Boxter) stare at the car with a puzzled look after hearing the exhaust note.

In Ireland, the cops use Mondeos. I've been pulled (over ;))on two occasions only to be quized about the car & nothing more, and have recieved nods of approval by cops in marked Mondeo's once they scanned it up and down.

Alas, I cannot sell my car :)

Word, or Taurus's with bodykits. Lots of people make fun of it until I tell them the bodykits are stock.. then it's either

At the local drag strip of all places, and at the window to pay/sign waivers:

Girl at window: I've never seen a turbo Taurus before...
pole120: That's because it's not turbo and it's not a Taurus. :shrug:

Two cars later I pull up to the window to pay. I go to hand the waiver form back, and she's just starting at my car.

Me: Hello? Hello!?
Girl: Uh, huh? Oh, sorry, I uh... I don't know. :confused:
 
most people know what my car is. i do get the " i see you working on the Taurus alot". but the people that don't know what a svt contour is i just say its a hot hod version of the ford contour. or you know what a srt4 is? well its like that only a ford. then it clicks.

pretty much the only person who doesn't like my car is a spoiled brat that drives his 97 M3 that daddy bought him. o yea and a friend that bought his own new bmw.

i forgot about this: one of my freinds thats gay comes up to me and says " Jon i saw you driving that red car. its a cute car" lol. he is a good guy though

all in all i would say most people just say nothing.

The only car that I had that girls thought was cute was my talon. Every single one I know who saw it, said this is such a cute car!!! That and kids under the age of 10 would yell out and say "Cool car!!! And only kids under 10. LOL
