Zetek Valve cover leaking

Was about to replace the spark plugs in my Zetek, found there was a reservoir of oil, assuming a valve cover leak. Looks like someone used RVT? rather than a gasket.
Am I better off using RVT or a gasket or both?
Does this common w/ the Zetek?

first off it is zetec ....

you do not and should not use RTV on this gasket .... yes they can leak, more so if the valve cover was removed .... I would remove the valve cover and check to make sure everything is ok then installed a new valve cover gasket ...

Just to clarify, by "ok", BrApple also means to scrape off all the RTV before reinstalling a new gasket.

I guess that was the problem with when it was repaired before. I'm somewhat surprised RTV was used since the previoues owner thought it went to a Ford dealer for all it's service

I'll pick up a gasket from either Ford or Autozone this AM.
