I finally found an instrument cluster with a tach for my car at a salvage yard the other day. I got it and swapped it out with mine. Luckily its mostly a plug and play deal, since the wire for the tach was already there (terminal 8, white wire with black stripe). The hardest part was the speedometer and mileage ofcourse, but it wasn't too far off from mine, a little over 15k. I used a dc wall adapter, a small electric motor, and a little plastic gear to spin the odometer. It took a few minutes, faster than I expected. Afterwards I use my room mates gps to pin the needle on the speedometer.
I have to say this is probably the best modification I've made to my car so far. Its nice to have a tach. (Personally I think every car should have one. I don't get why there are some automatics that have them and some manuals dont)
Pictures will be up later.
