just had a thought, I am going to try to go to the Essex Steam Train and river boat tomorrow .... was checking the schedule and there is a foliage season from october 4th to the 29th, lasts 2.5 hours with the train and riverboat rides for $26 each

should be able to combine that with some driving ...

I was really hoping someone from CT would step up this year and do the fall meet. It's long overdue IMO.
The train and riverboat sounds like a great idea, along with the drive of course.
I am definitely down for that.

Perhaps they give group rates. I'm wondering if they'll need us to make reservations if our group is larger than 10 or something like that.

Thanks for looking into that, Brian.
I'm getting excited for fall already.

sorry I should have posted the link

Essex Stream Train and Riverboat

needs groups of 25 or more to get a group rate

anyway if we meet at my apartment in Enfield, lots of parking ... we could shoot out 190 to 197 and down 169. all roads out in the country side/woods, we drove one of them last year with Skunk.

So that would take us across the top of CT and then down to the coast where the steam train is. Even after that we could go over to Gillette Castle which you can see from the riverboat. Of course teh casinos are not that far away for food and Mystic is also no to far.

So it would be $26 each for a 2.5 hour train/boat ride non group rate.

edit: that CT river ferry is also right near by and that is a fun road to drive also

Steam Train & Riverboat Departures at 11:00 am, 12:30 pm, and 2:00 pm

that sounds like a good idea brian.. as long as mike can make it.. (and not throw haroony off the boat )
hehe.. trout slap.. lol it would be a great idea. a sunday woud be best for me.. count me in.

Sundays are probably best for me too. However, I'm going to California or Vegas or Kansas or Florida some weekend in October so I may not be able to make it.

of course.
I think most of our meets has been mixed vehicle meets.
Every meet is come one, come all. No one is going to give you crap for the car you drive up in.

I did show up in my wife's soccer mom van (when my 'Tour was giving me all the troubles, before I had to get rid of it), and I didn't get too much crap.

ok back on topic ... Jess and I went down to Essex yesterday and had a good time. I think this would be a great idea for a meet if people don't mind the cost. Yes it is $26 a person, will look into group rates for less then 25 people, but you get a 2.5 hour train/boat ride and it is well worth it

some pics and vids here

i forgot to mention that the parking area is a dirt lot, but if you enter form a different enterence there is a back lot area that is grass and pretty level that would be a good spot to park

but of course, that is why I commented about the parking lot, you have to cross some train tracks but I didn't see anything to bad

ok, I have given some though as to the plan for a meet and this is what I have so far ...

meet at my apartment in Enfield around 10 am ... gives everyone time to show up and hang out, we would leave around 11:30 and the drive would be about 2.5 hours across the top of CT and then down to the shore ... last ride that allows you to take the riverboat is at 2 pm, we would get there about 1:30 as there is a meuseum and other things on the grounds to check out, train/riverboat ride is about 2.5 hours so we would be back at about 5... we could all then head to the casinos to eat or anything else someone wants to suggest ... the train station is on RT 9 just a few exits from 95 and of course 395 is not that far away for those wanting to get to 290 or 495 in MA, other can head up 9 to 91 and 84 etc

let me know if people are interested and I will drive some roads to pick out a route

the other way that we can work this is we all meet at the train station at 11 am for the first run of the day then drive back to Enfield and we can either cook out or go out to eat

I'm not so sure I'm up for the 2.5 hour roundabout route to Essex. 2.5 hours is quite a long scenic drive.
I do like the idea of meeting at your place first.

I like the idea of doing one of the earlier time slots in Essex, just in case. I'd hate to get there at 2:00 and find out they're all booked up or something.

Then a cruise after that along the shore to a restaurant would be pretty cool.

I'm not trying to be Mrs. bossypants and shoot down your ideas, so hopefully I'm not coming off that way.
I'm just tossing around my thoughts.

input is great ... the drive is 2.5 hours because some of the roads that I want to take just go across the top of CT so you have to drop down to Essex, these are not just scenic roads they are good driving roads also. so we could do those roads then hop on 395 and run down there.

the only problem with that is i am only 18 and last time i checked 18 year olds cant get into a casino, but food sounds great. also with that long drive especialy if im driving the car hard i will have to stop for gas at least once since i have the thursty v8.

you can still go in and eat there if you're under 21, just can't go into the gambling sections of the "resort". and uhh....just as an fyi if we go to foxwoods i can probably get us all comped if we go to fuddrucker's, panera, or the buffet assuming an insane amount of people don't show up sorry, don't have enough points for all of us to eat at the steakhouse oh yeah, brian i was also thinking about heading down to the pike at some point. seems pretty fun from some sites i've looked at so yeah, wat do people do down there and stuff? and where do they meet?

i heard the pike is pretty crazy, if you dont know where to go to stay out of trouble you could get in deep shyt real quick. but if you know the good spots its a nice hangout with alot of cars. also lots of cops around so dont do anything stupid.

yeah, you can walk around the casino but you can't go onto the "floor" so at the sun you can get to the shopping and food areas

as for the pike, I don't know of any places or people to hang out with, but if others from CEG go .... if i go I just cruise back and forth a few times so that shouldn't land anyone in trouble

umm 2.5 hours.. sounds like a lot of gas.. maybe harooney can spot me a tank.. lol

umm.. river boat sounds awesome. just throw some dates out cause desi really wants to try and make it.

as for the pike. lol that would be great to see alot of csvt's up there.. but as for hangout spots.. there's taco bell really and wendys.. both of which are always packed.. and with kids that have crappy cars that just make fun of people with nicer cars because they're jealous. but its a good time if you take one car.. parking just sucks up there on friday and saturday nights.

(although i think plans are hopefully on sunday)

yea im not dishin out gas for 2.5 hours..actually im kinda hesitant on a cruise as well..It will have to be a sunday because that will be the day i have off from EVERYTHING. Most our meets are on sunday as well so i dont see why this one wont be. Anywho a few photoshoot spots would be cool or places where we can take nice pics of our cars alone or with whom ever we please..that would def. be fun and also somthing to think about..

ok well ... if we all meet at my apartment Essex is about an hour away ... since it is down by the shore I can look into finding a few nice spots down there to drive/get pics ...
