So as I was coming home from the store tonight, I heard and felt a weird rubbing on my front passenger side wheel well.. There is a noise in cadence with direct relation to wheel speed. Its only in one spot but I can't figure it out... I took the tire off and checked to see if something was caught and rubbing but no luck!!!:help: I just had my front brakes replaced about 500 miles of so ago.. could this be a problem relating to that? I am so puzzled!!!!:blackeye:

I suspect it is the brakes or wheel bearing. Do the o'clock test (and spin the wheel; does the sound occur?). Then remove the wheel and examine the brake pads.

Edit. O'clock test

Jack up the car one side. Place on jack stand.

Grasp wheel at 12 and 6 o'clock and push in and out. Any movement, most probably suspect wheel bearing.

9 and 3 o'clock - tie-rod/ball joint.

Lower the car and do the same for the other side.

So I tried the "O' Clock" test....

I started with the passenger side wheel (since this seems to be where the noise is coming from)
spun the wheel.. No sound
12 and 6... No movement
9 and 3... very little movement

Now the driver side...
spun the wheel.. no noise
12 and 6... no movement
9 and 3... very little movement

I didn't check the brake pads... I figure since I just had them done I will just stop by the shop on my way to work and see if they can figure this out.

So now that I have been up most of the night trying to figure this out.. I am off to get ready for work.. I hope I can make it there...

maybe a inner or outer cv joint? i know it makes a clicking sound when turning. i had the same prob/sound when my axles where going.

tasia you dork. but i would look at the brakes. have you have them looked at sence they failed?? with the problems you have been having with the brakes it could be them.

You'll never guess!!! I went to the dealership and this is what they came up with...

Subject
  • Scraping/Scrunching Noise from front of vehicle during low speed turning and braking (clean front wheels and replace front tires only)
Tires
  • Goodyear Eagle RSA Tires and Goodyear Eagle LS Tires
Condition
  • Some customers may comment on a noise from the front of the vehicle during low speed cornering, braking, and parking lot maneuvers. The noise sounds like a scrunching/scraping noise. ONLY vehicles equipped with 16 inch (406 mm) aluminum wheels with Goodyear Eagle RSA Tires or Goodyear Eagle LS Tires are affected.
Cause
  • This condition may be caused by raised ribs on the tire sidewall contacting the rim flange and creating an audible noise during vehicle cornering maneuvers. The rubbing action may cause minor cosmetic chafing on the rim flange, but will have no negative affect on the tire/wheel performance or durability.
  • This noise is commonly misdiagnosed as a faulty front wheel bearing or worn front brake pads.

So pretty much its deal with it til I need new tires.... Jim (my shop guy) said that this isn't a safety issue and to try to ignore it because I have a lot of tread left!! LAME!!!

that was my next guess, but the sound didn't change at speed. i wanted to say the belts in your tire failed. i have a aliment problem were my car pulls to the right and the shop said it was my tires. i know there wrong. it did the same thing on my old set.

Yep, that would be me. Misdiagnosis as faulty front wheel bearing or worn front brake pads.

I have a cheap and easy solution. ;) Rotate tires front to back. Then, increase tire pressure by one or two pounds. I can almost guarantee you won't hear the sound again. Entonces, aumenta la presion del nuematico en uno o dos libras.

I asked Jim if this would work.. he said that the tire pressure could quiet it slighty but other than that the noise would just be from the back... I guess all my tires are making that noise.. its just the front left that is the loudest....

On a good note... I have a budddy who is selling me his Konig rims and 3 of them have tires... I can get a new tire for like $80 and I am getting the rims for $100... So pretty much I am getting a set of 4 new rims and tires for $180 !!! Not to shabby... oh and he says that I need to help him bake his headlights and I owe him a case of beer too.... but he drinks coors so thats a cheap case.. hahah.... yay!
