Awright, now. I throw the flag for piling on.
I've actually given this project some thought in the past. There may be a way to adapt a Jag X-Type rear subframe, diff, hubs, fuel tank to replace the 'Tour stuff. Then a 2005 Escape engine/tranny combo. I don't know what axels/hubs/wheels would fit up front - that's the big problem. The Jag stuff is way different, subframe & all. If the Jag axel would fit in the 'Tour hub, we could have a 5 bolt setup all around, otherwise you'd end up with the 4 bolt stuff up front and 5 bolt in back - goofy.
Another BIG problem would be the AWD adaptation. It's electronically controlled in the Escape tranny/pcm. You'd have to figure some way to permanently hardwire the AWD system "ON", or add an 'on demand' switch that the driver could trip. Hell, I don't even know if the tranny would even function with the electronics available in a 'Tour. There's lotsa figurin' that has to go into a project like this. If the electronics for for the tranny are not compatible, then you've got some serious programming/wiring problems to tackle.
