Hazards work, replaced the clockspring, fuse and relay work and it honks when I double hit the button on keyless entry....anyone have any other ideas?
I thought it was the clockspring b/c I had the engine out and had an airbag light that would flicker...but now it does exactly as it should...turn on momentarily whan you first turn the key, then goes off.

Since the horn works with the button, it sounds like a problem with the switch in the steering wheel itself. Since you changed the clock spring (which I have not idea why it would have anything to do with removing your engine) you should have noticed the wires that work your horn and cruise control inside the steering wheel under the air bag. You may have a loose or broken wire which could also account for the issue which you had with the air bag light. Perhaps when you put it all back together you got it in just the right position now.

Just thinking out loud.

My 2 cents,
Regards

heres something interesting that I learned... If you remove the cruise control modual from the engine bay, the horn doesnt work.

can you verify that the cuise control works? Its oddball but they are tied together.

Yes they are tied together power wise through fuse #12, 15 amp in the engine compartment fuse box. I too have a wiring problem with my horn. According to the paper work the original owner had a problem and the ford dealer resolved it by talking the owner into disconnecting the low pitch horn on the pass side. However if you honk the horn more than just a quick beep it blows fuse #12 and the cruise control doesn't work. The problem is with the wiring between the two horns. I plan on replacing the wiring from the interior connector above the fuse block all the way to the horns which is what ford should have done. Anyway they are tied together power wise and since Stilov's works except by the horn switch his issue must be in the steering wheel switch or the wiring on the steering column. It is a checkable condition that may include removing the knee panel under the steering column and the air bag for access to the wiring. Checking the schematic on the Ford CD would be helpful in resolving this issue.

that's it then...I have no cruise control...wow I can't believe I noticed that before now...I better at least plug in my cruise control module then!!!!

Thanks guys.

with the engine being out...i though I may have turn the wheel with everything disconnected and broke the clockspring.

no cruise control module = no horn

I've been bugging people for a while about this, so how is the wiring different for the contour/cougars that were sold WITHOUT cruisecontrol

ya...especially since it looks like I tossed my module with all the garbage from the swap...so now I need to buy another.

Well plugged in a new cc module and presto...I have a horn gain!!!!

I can now take this issue a step further.

If you short pins 1 and 5 of the cruise control wire harness in the engine bay [left to right assuming the side of the harness with the clip to be the top], your horn will work without the cruise control module.

I found a non-cruise control cougar to confirm this.

OK, I give up, I just gotta ask. Why would one want to not have cruise control??? I haven't checked, just been to busy, but I'd bet this was shown on one of those Ford CD's schematics. Did anyone check that?

why?? well for one reason I've owned the car for 8 years now and I have never once used it. If fact, I am not even sure HOW to use it. So I can confidently say I'm not going to miss it. Eitherway its about 2 pounds I get to remove from the engine bay. Alone that means nothing but it quickly adds up [and it also cleans up the appearance].

Oh I see ...... go faster and better mileage  Two very good reasones.... but for me I'd miss it, use it every day, and IF I can figure it out ANYONE can

because it was too hard for my to adapt to my set-up. I am using a 3L aluminum upper manifold from a Taurus, with a ported GT TB, and I have my oil separator where the cc module used to be...

that's why.
