Hey guys,

I won't have my xcal 2 for over a month, but I am wondering if I can drop in the 3L and just run it with the stock SVT tune for the time being!?!? I don't know how much the stock SVT PCM can adjust. Anyways, the setup is 3l block and heads with SVT upper and lower. And of course SVT cams are already in it.

Thanks for your help,

Jeff

Are you doing a full swap?

From what I remember the stock svt will run a 3 liter swap (not optimally). If you're doing svt uppers and lowers, it will work even better since you will have retained secondaries.

what pud said. It should function, just not near optimally. Make sure you use the stock SVT MAF and injector size until you can get the xcal2 working, or it will run very poorly. And be sure to leave the IMRC controller hooked up and stuff, so the pcm thinks its working.

Full 3L swaps run great. I've been driving mine around for months, just getting crappy gas mileage and a little bucking in the low rpm's. The tune this March will clear all of that up...

So does this mean I can drive it just as if it were my 2.5, or to I have to take it easy until I get the xcal and tune?!?!? I am assuming that I can drive it hard and such, but it just won't be optimally performing.

It is really only some very small differences between a tune for the 3L and a 2.5L. Rara is correct that it isn't optimized but that is something only a discriminating car perfectionist would notice.

The point is the SVT cams and tune are more aggressive than the stock contour stuff and the stock ford taurus stuff. The timing curves are already designed for those cams and the way that the dual runner intake works.

The few parameters that pertain to engine displacement will throw your load calculations off by a small amount but will in no way compromise your basic driving performance.

Anyway, even a stock SVT tune can be improved upon a little to give the 2.5L SVT some more performance since it is designed to work on EVERY SVT and not tailored to an individual one.
So you can fine tune it but if you NEVER tuned your 3L with SVT PCM/inj/maf combo then you will be perfectly fine with good performance and driveability.
