How much did your nitrous system cost?

I would say a S/C is more usable and drivable then a turbo. Sure the Tubro can get you more power and torque but having been in both a S/C and a Turbo CSVT I enjoyed being in the S/C SVT. Would I rock a turbo SVT hell yeah but if I had a choice I would rather a S/C.

Both You and Tricker need to reevaluate your statements. There is no comparison with at well designed turbocharged tour to a SC tour.

We aren't talking roots-type blowers here either.

If the turbo seemed to peaky or traction issues then it was sized wrong or the tires weren't up to the task.

The driver/racer shouldn't be detuning his engine to meet the traction requirements of his tires....he should be increasing his traction to keep up with the power he can make.
With our cars it is a balance, but it can be done with the correctly sized turbo. The very reason people like the supercharged tours is that they don't have enough down low power to break traction but the faster you go the more the power comes on. It feels good....but it doesn't feel as good as a turbo car. If you can hold traction the turbo is more like....like THRUST from a rocket. A constant level of torque makes for quite an exhilarating ride. If you can hold it to the road you will eat up a SC tour every time. Also, if your system reliability is higher in the turbo because you can run less boost to make more power meaning the air charge is cooler and the engine safer. There are no pulleys no bearings no shafts, no belts to wreck either.
So I'll say it again, properly constructed it is more reliable, has less parasitic drag and therefore makes better fuel economy, is more powerful, and performs better.

Nice write up..Ive never rode in a juiced or boosted contour yet..so i couldnt say anything..I have tho driven a S/C mustang bad traction problem but fun..I liked it..But i know the boosted/Juiced deal on a contour is totally different and hope one day to ride/drive one..

Honestly, a nitrous powered contour is amazing how hard they pull and how fast. The really sophisticated nitrous systems would perform as well as any good turbo/SC setup...but they cost the same as a full blown SC or turbo kit and then you are still filling the bottle. It has lots of drawbacks, not the least of which is the catastrophic nature of most nitrous system failures. You will not see the more sophisticated nitrous setups on a contour/cougar because of the cost and at that level you become a serious player. The serious players eventually go to boosted engines because of the on-demand power and reliability.

Just think how long it would take to burn through a 10lb nitrous bottle at a 100shot? Now think of it in terms of a road race with acceleration after acceleration, etc. You maybe have a good half our to an hour. I once burned through a bottle in one evening with only a 75shot.
It's best for the drag strip and the occasional embarrassment of other cars.

true warmonger. for the record, on a 100 shot i can go approximately 12 passes safely, after that it starts to surge and the bottle pressure barely goes over 800psi. the last pound or so of the bottle can never be utilized really. nitrous has its downfalls. but there are issues that come with every type of power adder. nitrous is just my favorite form of f.i. and it's just due to personal experience and what i have seen from my friends who have turbo and supercharger and nitrous setups. i think you are right though warmonger, with this sophisticated nitrous setup i am trying to achieve it will be to the point where i could have had a turbo setup for a little more, and not be filling bottles. but the cool part is i will be doing the unthinkable, having about 80% of the stock horsepower rating in nitrous going through the engine, and i really think i can do it without doing catastrophic damage, and do it on a regular basis

Which is exactly why I spent a few hundred bucks on a ZEX kit and not a few thousand on a turbo.

I'm trying to decide which way to go with my FI plans. How much did your nitrous system cost? That includes all of the extra goodies...remote opener, bottle blanket, purge, etc.

I'm not looking for how much your buddy gave it to you used. I want to know how much it would cost if I went to Summit and had to buy everything new.

Over $1k?
$800-900?
Less?
More?

Thanks,
Ben

Prepare to spend about $1000-$1200 with everything combined.

Basic kit, pressure controlled bottle heater (don't waste your money on a temp monitored one), purge, blowdown tube, remote bottle opener, pressure gauge, and 2 step colder plugs.

whoops I somehow left out a window switch...

all that stuff is not needed though, for just a bare essentials kit I would get the basic kit, pressure monitored bottle heater, nitrous gauge, window switch and 2 step colder plugs.
