I picked up the motor yesterday from PA for my rebuild. I get around to taking it out of the truck today and there is no lift hooks on this engine.
What are the acceptable lifting points for these engines? And what size bolt to attach the chain to the block? The reason I ask is because I don't have any laying around so I need to buy new.

Also, there is a crack on one of the ears that I didn't see the other day. Is this in a bad place?
EDIT FOR A BETTER PIC

If I could tell correctly the crack looks like it is in the flange to the lower tranny bolt. It will probably be just fine.

You could pull the lift hooks off the contour engine and put them on the 3L if needed, but you could also just bolt the chain up to the locations that they go. The bolt holes are on the top of the engine opposite corners. One of them is directly above the location in you picture - should be like a 12mm bolt.

Make sure you take the bushing out of the crank it is the part sticking out the furthest in your picture. I spend a couple extra hours yesterday trying to mate the tranny, because I forgot about that puppy.

You can try to post with less than 10 characters, like 'Got it'. And see for youself. Then you know what it is about. :)

And the other part? "FTMFL"? Check urbandictionary.com and you will get it. :D

Yes, I have the plates (a bunch actually), so whenever you need them.

Looks like the crack is just in the flange, but how did it happen is the question. You could try reinforcing it with welding or JB weld, to try and make sure it does not spread.

Does that engine have the coil on plug setup? Are you going to try and use it, or junk it?

It probably doesn't - at least without a lot of work, troubleshooting and probably reprogramming. PM me if you are interested in getting rid of it.

COP won't work unless you are willing to rewire to use the escape/taurus PCM along with the escape/taurus wiring...

And there is really no great benefit of using COP
