I'm nearing the end if not already there on my bolt ons for my contour, I was wondering if you guys had any ideas on what else I might be able to do for get up and go/performance things before I start hitting up the suspension. So far I have headers, y-pipe, full exhaust, intake, optimized tb, SAFC II for a/f management, poly mounts, short shifter, HMS Trans, spec flywheel and clutch, and I can't think of anything else for now. I'm trying to lean away from big $ items like cams and I don't want to put nitrous back onto it from the horror stories I've heard (although it was fun). Ideas?

Nice looking ride.

Looks like you have just about every bolt on you can do.

If you have had fun with nitrous in the past, why not use it again? Horror stories arise because of people who don't know what they are talking about and from others who have had bad experiences (not bad luck) simply because they didn't install it correctly, run the apropriate amount of fuel, had pre-existing conditions, didn't adjust their timing, etc.

Nitrous is absolutely safe if it is installed correctly, and as long as the other things like tune, engine condition, etc. are all adjusted accordingly. And obviously, don't be a nut running a shot that is too big for the engine to handle.

UDPs for PS and Alt.
Intake pipe
Heatshield
Wires
Have your UIM max-honed\port matched to LIM
Widen LIM injector ports
Optimize your LIM or overbore secondaries to run 35mm butterflies
Upper head work where applicable

While that SAFC-II may allow you to play with your a/f, I don't know whether it can also help you vary your stock timing and redline. If it cannot, then you are likely to find a few more hidden ponies by going to an xcal2 and a good non-generic dyno tune. And the difference between the stock redline and raising mine up to 7300 (so I could do shifts at 7100-7200)? It gave me perma-grin. You've got a lot of fun waiting to happen on your 1-2 and 2-3 shifts.

You must be itching to break your ET into the 14s.

Have you considered drag radials yet?

Very nice! How do you like the SAFC? Ease of use?

Let me get my dyno sheet up and you can look at my a/f and see for yourself.

I would have done suspension way before any of that stuff but that's me.

I'm going to, but with 46K miles the stock is still getting the job done

Correct, it plays with the a/f but has nothing to do with timing or redline. I purchased mine from a friend for a good deal plus when I was stock it gained me 9 WHP. And now I added fuel down low and fine tuned it everywhere else and I gained power everywhere. I'm sure I'd love to get an Xcal but one step at a time. Maybe buretta's and warmonger's turbo kit is next

yeah and the 15.15 was last year, before any of the trans work, good tires, or power adders. So yeah I'm looking forward to this year. I've looked at drag radials but I sold my 17s and running on the stockers right now. So first I'm thinking what I want to do about wheels, either get 18s or run a good set of tires on the 16s

Very nice, Honestly I think its pretty neat to try and keep the 2.5 and do as much as you can with it.

Maybe PM barge about what else you could do, I know he was pulling some incredible numbers out of his 2.5

It may also be time for you to pick up an xcal and PRP. It seems like you enjoy tuning, and have a pretty standard grasp on things, why not step up to full adjustability. Maybe you can find some more torque in it somewhere because I pulled 176/162 (If I remember) w/out headers.

Is there any true gains for underdriven crank/alternator/power steering pullies? I haven't really heard anything for sure on them

And aside from what I said in my first post, I think the go go juice is going back on

sounds like your missing a superchips, with all the mods you already have you should pic up about 5-10 hp and raise the redline to 7,500 rpm so you can shift a 7K rpm which put you right in the sweet spot of the powerband .

i called superchips last week and its about $230- $260 for a chip plus shipping

they can burn it according to you list of mods.it will help you walk on a type R . and i still have stock manifolds with precats. FOCUS SVT smartpump fuel pump mod is also a goodie since it has a higher flow rate and help you get the most out of bumping your timing.

do you notice a benifit to using the apex-i safc II ? it always interested me but i have yet to install one. does it have and neat bar graphs or live active displays ?

Why would he pay for a superchip from a company that doesnt have much hands on experience with the contour when he can pick up an xcal from nautilus? Im sure he'd realize more gains with toms tune anyway.

On top of all that, he could probably do a good enough job himself with a PRP!

If it's engine related your next mod should be a tune or an xcal and PRP.

Seeing as how i hit 183hp with just an intake and MAF that should give you an idea of how much is left in your car.

Oh, and unless the SAFC is free... it's a waste of money. There are much more complete solutions out now like the PRP... which although it is more money it is light years better than the SAFC.

If I end up selling the contour, will the xcal be able to work on any other 96+ ford (ie: cobra)? If so then sign me up.

And I got the SAFC II cheap and I recommend it as something not to completely tune your car, but to fine tune it. It did help a lot, I mean I gained 9 WHP over stock at SZ, but yes there are better solutions. Would I buy another one, yes. But then again I haven't had an XCal yet
