I need to sell my dads 2000 contour sport. Its a v6 with a 5 speed. Believe it or not it has 1700 miles on it. I asked for opinions on a similar website as to its value and didnt get many responses.
The ford dealer offered 5000 dollars. I was really hoping it would be worth around eight thousand. I guess I will find out when I list it next week.
Am i crazy in estimating its value? The car has power everything including sunroof. It is brown in color with a grey cloth interior. Thanks in advance for your opinions.....Phill

KBB says around $6500.

Where is the car located?

It better be in showroom condition if you expect to get $8K for it. The car probably went for about $17,500 new - and they stopped making them seven years ago.

Yeah, I'd jump on 5k for an se. A svt with 2? 000 miles just sold for 6500 on here. As was said its a car which has been out of production for 7 years now.

The SVT market is completely different in nature and can't really be compared. A mint SVT Contour with 1,700 miles would probably get more than $12k.

Just put an add in the paper and see if anyone responds. If no one does you know you've over shot. Your car is worth what one man is willing to pay for it.

That can't be good, a car sitting for 7 years w/ only 1700 mils put on it. May I ask why the car wasn't driven at all?

Well, I have a 79 F-250 with only 18K original miles on it. Sometimes you just don't use a vehicle. And 4K of those miles were put on in the last two years.

or $20k like the Saleen contour

id take the $5k and run. maaaaybe you can pull a little more via private party but you may be sitting around awhile. its a damn fine car for the price but you have to find someone who would really know its "value" and also likes the car. you can buy quite a few decent cars for $5-6k, albeit not with low mileage.

i dont know how populated your town is but that can play a big factor. put an ad in the autotrader starting at $6500 obo. give it a month and if it doesnt sell, reconsider the dealer. hell, just keep the car! with that low mileage you're just giving it away at just about any price.

Thanks for all the responses. To answer a couple questions, the car is in western Iowa, just northeast of Omaha. My dad bought the car new in the fall of 2000 and lost his right arm to cancer in Jan. of 01. No driving a left hand drive stick shift!! He was a collector of Brittish fords and loved the contour so it sat with his collection. I either ran or drove the car every month and it was serviced by the local ford dealer.
My dad died in January and my mom is thinning his herd of cars!!
I dont know where most of the responses are coming from but I will keep it if its only worth 5K. Hell one of my sons just sold a 95 civic ex with 138k miles for 4300 bucks!!
Anyway thanks for all the help....Phill

sorry to hear about the loss of your father..

the responses are just from our knowledge/experience, as owners of these cars in that theyre not really worth anything. they were never popular, hence their discontinuation. we all certainly know that they are great cars but most of the buying public does not. most of the buying public think that theyre turdmobiles that were discontinued for a reason.

you have a practically brand new contour that is worth well over $5k to someone who knows its true value. just give it a try anyways. you never know, someone may come by for a test drive and think "wow, for only $6500!"

i honestly think he could get waaaaay more than that. It is basically a brand new car, and a lot of people will look at it and see it as such.

$5000 wholesale is an excellent price, take it and run. Age is another factor in depreciation, also the market for MTX cars is small. Most who do get a manual, get a sports coupe or a specialty car like the C-SVT.

If you try to sell it here, buyers will offer prob'ly not much more than $5K.

Welcome 66LOCORT. Sorry for your loss. Hope the car sells well.

You may not post in the Classifieds but the local forums usually have a For Sale thread that you can post but the rules are usually a little stricter on what you can post or not (no prices etc.). Most of the communication need to be done with PMs.
