my sunroof is currently stuck open in the up position and its raining!!! any ideas??? i have NEVER had any issues at all with my sunroof, please help

Next time this happens, pop off the plastic cover and you'll see a bolt you can turn with a wrench to close it. (assuming you keep tools in your trunk!) More detailed info used to be in the main site FAQs but they appear to be broken right now...

It got to a melted spot. worked its way around and will end up on that bad spot, again, soon.

Avoid using your sunroof until you either replace the gear or choose to not care if it gets stuck open.

i should probably add that when it was no working...it was making no noise at all, only noise was the click from me hitting the switch, does that happen if it is the gear? or should i have heard something moving?

I'd say the commutator of the sunroof motor could have been in a dead spot, and the vibration from driving ten feet moved the armature just enough so that the brushes made good contact again. Happens with DC motors.

thats what i was thinking, but i gave the motor a good whack before i attempting the driving trick...who knows...hasnt given me a problem since and i use it all the time

My neighbor had a power window motor like that. A good whack in the right spot freed up the brushes. He replaced the motor, the new one did the same thing a year later. The fix was: an access hole behind the carpet trim, insert screwdriver, tap. Worked. I think the motor would corrode, not used often.
