Does anyone know what the part number for the trunk spring is?

The last I heard it was the one posted on the on the webpage. However I talked with my parts man and they said that the part number was no good, After he gave me this number 1S4Z-63431B04-AA which superceded the original. When I went back to them after a couple of months, they said that the latest part number is no good and they don't see a trunk spring in the books.

a VERY quick search on the old forums (www.contour.org/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php) in Troubleshooting revealed a thread with this number:

1S8Z-63431B04-AA
valid as of April of 03. Surely changed by now. Was ~$8 at that time. Contact Bill Jenkins at Team Ford Parts for clarification on the new number and ordering. (He's a member here, and his info is in his signature..)

Actually, if would be a good idea to clarify WHICH spring you looking for.

I.E., the "popper" or the gas shocks that support the weight of the trunk lid when opened. The number above is for the "popper".

I was looking for the popper spring, not the gas struts. Basically, the struts do a great job of holding the trunk open when lifted. They just won't open the trunk anymore when opening from the drivers seat.

I did try searching in the old forums but I just couldn't find any sign of them.

so they make springs? id like to add them to my 99 svt, but only if they are bolt-on.

I just used a simple self tapping screw. In the manual my parts guy said that there are suppose to be two on the cougars. I only used one and found that one is good enough. All you really need it for, is to keep the weight off of the latch so that it doesn't lock on you.
