i just replaced my thermostat and my water pump. and i put coolant in the tank and i run the car and the level doesnt drop. no hoses are filling up and i dont know what could be causing this anymore.

Grant, did you try runninng it a bit w/ the top off. Sounds like there's an air pocket blocking the coolant from circulating. Had it happen w/ Tam's truck, once.

well now that i removed my water pump, radiator hoses, cross over tubes, coolant tank, i have come up with two possible reasons why this is happening. first off the restrictor plate in my waterpump housing is broken, i read it is supposed to be in there and when i put in my waterpump it kind of fell out in my hand. second when i turn the radiator upside down fully drained of antifreeze(please dont ask why i tried this) a lot of anti-freeze came pouring out but it was supposed to be empty. is the radiator clogged or is it all because of this restrictor plate?

Was your waterpump in pieces when you changed it? Sometimes a part of the impeller could get stuck in the plumbing. Also, that plate behind the waterpump should be there and not loose. Was the waterpump belt and tensioner good?

waterpump was all 1 piece, housing wasd in two pieces so i got another housing. thermostat would not open in boiling water so i need to get a new one. wow not even a mile on it and its already bad.

It takes a while (10 min) for those thermostats to open in boiling water. Try a Motorcraft one if possible, and I hope that fixes your problem.:)

what could be causing no coolant in the top hose. i know the thermostat wont let coolant past until it opens but there isnt any in the top hose between the heads either. or the lower hose. im getting really pissed at this car....

Need to "bleed" the system of air. Leave the reservoir cap loose and drive it on hilly areas (carry a gallon of 50/50 in the trunk for refills) for a few miles. In addition, it would help you massage the hoses. But the thermostat needs to be in working condition before you do those things.

You can also jack the front of the car up and let it run.
Take the cap off and watch it start to circulate. It's just air lock.
Watch your temp gauge as well.
Tony is right there too, message the hoses, it helps.

How I filled my engine a few years ago, experts welcome!

Obtain the required amount of 50/50 mix coolant, specified in service/owners manual. Park car nose high uphill or on ramps, so trapped air will tend to go to radiator. Take off the upper radiator hose, with angled funnel or through hose, fill up the radiator with the 50/50 premix, which will fill the engine partially, let in settle in (gurgles). Add until it will not accept any more. Reinstall hose/clamp. Pour coolant in the heater hose that joins near the thermostat, which will get some coolant in the cylinder heads of engine as well. Once full takes a few tries, reattach hose/clamp. Fill up reserve tank to max, put pressure cap on. Add coolant to engine if reserve tank gets near bottom, when engine has cooled. As it warms up, check heater is hot. Check coolant capacity. When you get most of the coolant in, run engine to full warmup, let cool, add to 1/2 inch above max. Check a few times after driving.
