I have an 1999 SE that I would like to put a little more power into. I know mustangs in and out, but not this car. What is the best bang for the buck on this car? I dont want to juice or charge it, but thought that there might be smaller things i could do to boost the hp.

best bang for your buck is 3.0L.

and headers.

3L swap take some work as you might imagine, but it is easily the best hp/$ mod if you do the work yourself. I threw in the headers because for the price of some MSDS headers & the benefits you'll get, you may as well install them while the engine is out. In car they can be a challenge.

for raw bang for the buck including labor and effort, its hard to beat a Y-pipe on an otherwise stock car. hp and tq will improve enough to consistantly feel.
Beyond that, things start getting expensive and more involved. Granted, you can do some intake tweaks here and there, but for the hp/$$ they aren't fantastic.

I forgot about that one. Maybe that's the difference between my Mystique & my old Contour... Hmmm, gotta mod the Y pipe now. :D

I agree, aftermarket y pipe for sure is the best bang/buck and easy install mod in my opinion.

Check the classifieds... they show up from time to time. :)

The MSDS headers are your best bet, raw steel version sells for about $250, and I've seen dyno sheets showing near 30HP gains!

raw steel were on sale for $170 in February! On contours, 30 hp gains from just swapping out the manifolds for headers is doubtful. Maybe with a good y pipe and an entire cat back, but even then, that is still doubtful! :)

cleaning ur uim/lim and tb, and getting it back to spec does wonders, and is really cheap. u would get ur money back too, since u save so much on gas.
