i currrently have a cervin vega 15 in the contour with 300 watts rms jbl 600
the box is as wide as the trunk and as high and takes up half the room

i want some thing that hits close to the same but smaller box
maybe like 2 10s infinity perfects or somthing
and was wondering if anyone has used a 10 in the rear deck or 2 maybe?

I did it, I liked the results, you run into two problems when designing the box.
1)The flat spot on the rear deck where you would be able to flush mount a box is only 9" wide.
2)you only have I believe 18" across the trunk before you hit the center seatbelt mount.

I'll post some photos of the setup I had in the SVT in a bit.

A 9x9x16" box will yield .75 cubic feet which is perfect for a Solobaric L7 8" sub in a sealed enclosure.

p.s. This is what I'm doing for midbass to compliment my 15" L7 in the trunk.

i love my 15 inch sub it freaking pounds
but it takes my whole trunk up i want something smaller
has anyone heard a free air 10?
i wonder if it would sound half way decent

Free air subs don't really give you alot of pop or tight bass....they normally handle the bottom end better and the long, low drawn out notes.

I mounted and 6.5" home audio sub in the rear deck in a hanging .35 cu. ft. box and it handles the mids very well and it will soon be complimenting a 12" Kicker CompVR....but I know that doesn't help you with your set up.

For the bass and boom you want you are probably not going to be able to use the rear deck. A good 12" or even 10" will produce want you want when enclosed and powered properly.

I used to have 2 15" sonys and a 1000 watt boss amp and it pounded....but it was a little too much for the Contour. So I know how you feel about room. It did fit the Continental alittle better though.

im gonna try a free air 10 if i can find a decent one if anyone knows of a good one help me out here

heck if you have one id trade you for my cv 15

I did a group buy for 10" rear deck mounts a while back i still have a few i think in the garage
Sounds goo but won't be anything like the CV

umm im going to try a pioneer shallow mount 1 on each side of the trunk behind the wheel wells. they will be pointed up at an angle. hope to sound good in a sealed box. but u can free mount the 10'' shallows

are they both free air?
how does your sub sound does it pound your chest
i dont want something everyone else can hear i just want it to rattle my teeth

Your not gonna get a rattle your teeth bass with one 10" sub in a IB setup.

THe mount is a peice of MDF(or contruction subflooring I can't remember what i bought last time) It mounts in under the rear deck. All the hardware to attach it comes with it. I have pics some where Ill post them later

Think of a rear deck sub as filling in what is lacking from Fords crappy stereo design. the contour setup yields very little low end bass. A 8" IB setup will give you bass similar to a very good 6x9 rear deck setup in most cars. A 10" will give you a bit more. A sealed or enclosed setup will give you a bit more punch and will sound better than a IB 10"
I started with a 8" sealed enclosure which sounded great in the winter with the windows up, but when I had the windows down in the summer time it would get completly drowned out with 35mph worth of road noise. Thats why I switched to the 10" sealed and I have been very happy with it.

If you don't want to go rear deck, just do a good 10" in a box that you can tuck up to the rear seats and mount the amp to the back of the rear seats.

I got this enclosure: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-hvh3iTcWmBs/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?g=178650&I=044QLH10S6

10" Polk sub at Fry's on clearance for $20 and a used RF Punch 150x1w amp off of eBay. Adds tons of low end and all for well under $200. And I can still easily fit golf clubs, baseball bat bags, etc. in the trunk.
