Today I was at the strip...went to launch and POOF nothing. No gears. I can start the car and let off the clutch and put it into any gear I want. I had the shift tower done by Terry not to long ago. I can feel it going into gears, so I dont think its the tower or the cables. Im just stumped. Also the car has an LSD and a stage 2 clutch. Any thoughts on this?

Clutch. As I said, same thing happened when the Clutchmasters went in it previously. If the diff went it would have most likely put a whole in the trans case. Your not making enough pour to destroy the Quaife.

can you put it in any gear without the clutch while the engine is running??
I blew my diff. without putting a hole in my tranny...

Ya I can start the car, let off the clutch, and put it into any gear I want then just rev it and nothing.
Also, I thought the same thing Ryan, I only revved it to 2k and popped the clutch. Its nutty. Iv heard of people popping the clutch at 5k on the stock one with no probs.

So you have never been to the strip with your contour? All I wanted to know is what it would run. Thats it. I guess better it broke here than in GR.

IMO, your not going to be 100% sure until the trans is dropped.

And listen to Toddles. Don't you know how stupid it is to put money into a car and then let it sit?
Kind of like building a motor and leaving the used bearings in it....

I had the same problem, once with my Laser, once recently with my SVT. The first was the axle. Check both of them first. The last one I believe is the MTX. It does the exact same thing as yours. If you step on the clutch there should be some noise if it went out because the pressure plate is released and the broken parts will be moved by the flyweel. If there is no noise, it is probably an MTX problem. As it was stated earlier, the only way to tell for sure is to drop the tranny. Good luck.

Well I just got off the telle with Terry H. He said if my speedo is working (which it is) then its something after the diff. He said he is putting money on my drivers side axle. I asked why I didnt need my clutch to change gears, he said because there is no pressure on it (nothing is going to the ground)

Grab the axle shaft and twist while pushing up and down. If it is snapped it will move around easily. If they are both solid than all I can say is I feel your pain.

Well I just found out I can slide my drivers axle in and out of the trans...thoughts on this?

If you're talking to TH then I'd ask his opinion.

Are you sliding it in and out while it's still in the car?

Start it up, put it in gear and let the clutch out. Is that axel spinning?

Sounds like the inner CV joint broke. Just replace it and give the old busted one as a core.

I replaced one of the axles with a GCK axle, but can't remember which one it was. I believe it was passenger side.
Edit: I see it's the GCK one that snapped. The other one is the Original.....I think.

I had that same problem happen twice to my 98.5
It was some 60 cent bolt that could be replaced via going in through the pan. Can't tell ya exactly what bolt or where but maybe if you know what the heck it could go to (fork or what not) then i would take a venture at the taking the pan of before i went as far as taking 10 hours to drop the cradle to get that tranny out
