Getting 5w-40 sythetic?

i run 10w-40 in my 87 250R gearbox and last year when i had the cases split to but a new bottom end on it the gears looked still brand new! 20 years old and 5 years of motorcross, it's gotta be good stuff.
 
I run 0W40 Mobil 1. Basically because 5W40 is not readily available here. It has served me very well. I have also run a mix of 5 quarts 0W40 Mobil 1 and 1 quart 5W30 Maxlife synth before as well. This mixture tends to eliminate the front oil pan seap that is common to this engine when running synthetic.

I would try to stay away from a diesel oil if there is another choice. They are definitely a durable oil but the additive package used to tame the ash/soot a diesel dumps into the oil requires much higher heat then generated in a gas engine. Most diesels have 1.5 times the compression (or more) and are turbo charged. The dynamic compression is astounding.
