Ok I have no idea what is wrong. I bought the car from a guy. He said he was driving and something broke, and he could not change gears... he just coasted to a stop. The shifter just free floats. You can move it all over the place without pushing in the clutch. We jacked the car up and took the driver side tire off to test the clutch and replace the shifter cables. When you crank it the axle spins the driver side with no tire but not the passenger side (I don't get it), when you push the clutch in it stops. However, the shifter still just goes every where. You cannot put it in any gear, its like its stuck in neutral. I hope that makes some sort of sense cause the problem makes none to me. If you think you know or need to know more please reply or send a PM and I'll give you my number. I really wanna get this car on the road!

Thx :help:

I don't think it's the diff because that doesn't explain the shifter problem.

It could have sheared a shift tower bolt.

Does the shift tower move at all when you shift the gears? Have you popped the shifter boot off to make sure the cable is still attached?

It's most likely the differential, that's why one axle spins and the other won't. It's a good excuse to install a torsen or quaife. I did the same thing on my jeep with oversized tires without channging the gear ratio, and it's probably from beating that contour like a red headed step-chilled!!
I hope you have some extra cash laying around, your gonna need it:laugh:

Yeah i got the whole console off. The tower does not move at all.

I would think the Diff too... however I can stop it with my pinkey. Also, i dont think that has anything to do with it not catching a gear. I could be wrong. Ill look into it thow!

Its probably either the shifter cables that connect to the shift tower, or the shift tower itself went back. Happend to a friend of mine where the cable came off the shift tower and the shifter then free floated.

mine is stuck in 2nd gear right now and i cant figure it out either, the shifter DOES NOT go side to side, it only goes in the 3rd to 4th gear pattern up and down but neither engage, ive got everything torn apart and it does seem like the shifter is bent, im getting a stock one today maybe that will do it.
