This happened maybe 30 minutes ago so my head is still screwed up:

I was coming home from walmart tonight, though I had to go to the further away one since it is a super center and they had what I wanted. Coming home on rt 30 I am crusing along at about 90mph when all of a sudden there is a large bang from the front of my car. Then I lose control. Then I do two 360's down the highway and end up on the side of the road.

Step back:

That loud bang noise, which I thought was tires blowing out, was actually my inner fender plastic liners and splash guard being ripped out. I think the left one got pulled out first then the center part came out with the front left one hanging on by 1 screw into my bumper (which almost got ripped off as well). The passenger (front right) inner fender liner got under my front right tire and I must have turned the wheel right, since the car basically nosedive right, then when I corrected a little left, it must have swing the dragging slash guard under my front right tire and made that lose traction. Thats when the 360'ing happened, and I felt the car pull up on two tires so I am very lucky the car didn't flip and roll. I think thats when I wet myself. So I am now sitting on the side of the road with my hands clamped on the steering wheel screaming about as loud as I can with my heart racing.

Aftermath:

I have no inner fender liners or a splash guard right now. They got pulled off and ripped in a few pieces. I also have a wet pair of pants.

Son of a *****.

You can replace the splash guards and wash your pants...but you can't replace yourself. Glad to see you're alright though.

But to answer your question in the thread title...yes. Two times actually.
Once while driving a 3000GT VR4.
Once while riding shotgun in a Twin Turbo Mustang Fastback.

once racing to get to a friend who had gotten jumped, almost took on a benz around 60mph head on after blowing a red light.

crash would have been fatal for everyone in the car.

Glad to see you're still on the green side of the grass - that stuff can be scary ! Like was already said , at least neither you nor anyone else were hurt - and the 'Tour came away with only very minor battle scars .

I'll chime in with an answer too - YES , a couple times . Once being te time I was high-sided on a motorcycle while rounding a sharp corner . Somehow I managed to save it ... and myself .

As others have said, the car is replaceable but you are not. Good to hear that you are OK.

Last time I had a feeling like that, a nice looking young lad was driving #1944 out of my driveway to a tortured life in Pennsyltucky...

WOW so the same exact thing happened to me the FIRST day i got my SVT.. driving along on the highway.. about 90mph and BANG, thought my ties blew out, but it was the plastic linear thing scraping along the road. luckily i didn't spin out though, but i was defidently scared s***-less. I ended useing my fingers to un-scewing the one side that was on still. that was surely not a fun night... and a week later my alternator died.

did it twice in my fathers car and mine a few years ago ... driving into a corner and lifted fast from the throttle, the corners where sandy and the rear end started to come around on me ... first time with that experience ...

↑ Maybe this is a good indication to not drive 90mph? But still, good to see you are still alive.

Glad you were alright..
Last night i was comin home from a friends house i was drivin along and i suddenly had an urge to put my seat belt on or i was gonna die.. So i figured somethin was gonna happen. Well all of the sudden teh guy in front of me slams on his brakes and turns well the guy behind me didnt see me slow down and i looked back and saw him almost hit me so i spun around the guy turning in front of me... It was a little scary cause it was pouring rain out. I almost couldnt see out!

Way to bring up a 6 week old thread! I thought Doug was going to tell us that he wasn't going to post here, again. I got my hopes up for nothing.

That sounds pretty damn scarey. Especially at 90 mph. Is that like a 65mph road? Sounds kind of reckless. I mean, everyone said that 70 in a 45 was dangerous, but you were going relatively just as fast as I was.. yet I don't hear anyone saying you deserved to get into an accident.. kind of weird..

anyways, glad to hear it was just inner-fenders and your tires didn't blow out... or something worse. I get that "I'm about to die" feeling everytime I drive with my cousin, she has no confidence when she drives and it puts me on edge. Yeah, that was just a side note.

I don't recall anyone from this section saying you "deserved" to die. No one deserves to die.

Cnewton44: Good to hear that you had a happy ending and you are fine. :) It's always safer to wear the belt. More times than not, you are safer with it on.

Not this section, just everywhere else, haha.

Three years ago I shot across two lanes of traffic after spinning out on black ice from a fork in the road. I counter steered back into my lane but slammed into an icebank on the right side. Some of you might remember the dent I had in the right rear quarter panel back then.. yeah. :blackeye:

Glad you're alright man.
