ok dont lock this up. i did the 12 6 test for the bearing tire doesnt move with brakes or without. but when i do i can hear something jingle a lil but the tire doesnt move. i did the 9 and 3 test for the other possibility and tire didnt move there etheir. any ideas?

if the sound is more pronounced upon acceleration (load) and/or turning, then it could be a bad CV joint, as well.

When my car has made that sound it's been the wheel bearing (twice now).

Could be a CV joint on yours so it's best to check it out.

Note that I couldn't shake my wheel at all and just heard the noise in corners. If it's a wheel bearing it will get progressively louder. I think I went several months before buying a slightly used hub and bearing from a CEGer.

Correct.

As stated above; bearings can make noise and NOT move when testing them in the air...

Keep in mind, if you DO allow a bearing to go bad long enough, it can begin to spin inside the hub, hollowing out the hub itself. Then, repalcing the bearing won't last because the new bearing isn't going to seal tight in the now-bigger-diameter hub

Not to mention as the bearing gets worse the fuel milage will suffer considerably i went from 17 highway with bad bearing to 23 city with new bearing

I had the ford dealer change my bearings out 3 times before I said that is enough. I changed the hub from Stazi, I think 210ft lbs, good as new and has lasted longer than any bearing replacement done by ford....

well the gas problem im not worried about. i just got 353 miles on 12 gallons after filling up at a flying j in virginia. would a local garage take a look at it without ripping it apart and be able to tell?

yes, they can put a stethescope on the hub and hear grinding as they rotate the wheel...

i just took it too the local shop and they said it could be the tire, a ball joint, or a tie rod end. its going in friday to have it fixed whatever it is. ill let you know what it ends of being.
