Searched the old forums, I saw LocoGSR did something similar, but not quite. What I want to do is remove the defroster vent from a 98 SVT, and use it to hold down my badly warped dash. I need to know how they removed the vent rom the dash on the 98, as it is different than mine. Does that make sense?

i may be mistaken here, but i believe that may in fact have been a complete dash swap. the 98 had a different (slightly) dash which did not warp.

I could have sworn I saw someone do this. Maybe I'll give it a shot myself. Thanks.

Scott -- a couple months back, Cinder installed the Ford dash warp fix kit. Maybe you're familiar with it. Its a big metal overlay that sits at the base of the dash, holding the warped area down. I'll lay pretty solid odds that this part is a bit challenging to find, but the results look pretty clean.

Here's the link, along with some before and after shots, if that helps.

Also, Jim Hahn has a fix that's a bit more unconventional, but apparently effective.

Hector did the vent swap but it did not fit right. The dash is shaped to allow that vent to mount onto it, but the 99/00 dash needs to be hacked up and IMO looks very cheap with the vent installed.

Just do the Ford dash repair. It's alot of work but it looks 100 times better. If you have a 95-98.5 dash, then swap that instead and forget the 99/00 dash.

Thanks guys. Lookin' to try to fix this cheaply, as I have spent way too much tryin' to fix my misfire/hesitation issues. Jim's dad had a good idea, may give that a try.

yeah, if you have a table saw and quite a bit of time on your hands to cut out a bunch of wood blocks, go for it. Mine seems to be holding pretty well.

My boyfriend and his friend did a complete dash swap in my car last fall. We took a tan dash out of a '97 Contour, the only difference was the console and the glovebox cover. I used my 2000 console, and 2000 bezel. Everything fits great! And I got the dash for free :) It's possible and cheap, it just takes a good amount of time to do.
