Actually instead of Ford red, you should have bought the brake caliper paint from Pep Boys. That red matches everything, from strut tower brace to Optima Battery....

I beg to differ....I painted everything in the engine bay...as long as you do it right, and not bang it up with tools, it will last.
How can you call the Zetec ugly?
HAHAHAHAHA by everything you mean the valve cover, strut tower brace(worthless) and air in take? LOL What about taht ugly coolant overflow? Even with the JRSC it still looks dumb.

Thanks for the criticism everybody, I appreciate working hard on something I want to fix up and getting hardcore made fun of for it. No really, I do.
heads up, im not doing stupid large amounts of mods to this car, I dont plan on a whole lot other then cleaning everything up and making it look nice, I bought it to travel thats all I do with it, is travel. I averaged 32 MPG in it today which is pretty much exactly what my old corolla got with the same type of driving, its comfertable, and makes a pretty good noise with the aftermarket exhaust, and I know of quite a few Ceg'rs that will vouge for that. I like to go fast as much as the next guy, what I cant afford is going fast and breaking stuff, or going fast and getting a ticket, putting this out there right now I used to have 8 points on my licence, its been knocked down to 6 points, and next year should be down to 4. Insurance on an SVT would have been stupid high for PLPD, and at the time this car was supposed to be a sweet deal, but the VCT solenoid decided to take a dump. Thats the only issue I have had with it, otherwise everything has been great, things are slowly going together.
I bought the car because it reminded me of my old Zetec tour, and in many ways it is like my old car, which I loved very much. I couldnt stand to see it get sold to some ****head kid that would wreck it, so I took it under my wing to fix up. My plan is to buy it and fix it up as a daily driver, make it look nice then sometime down the road buy an SVT and throw a 3L in it.
There, now its out there, I have said it. It was supposed to be a secret, it was supposed to be a surprise, but I am sick and tired of everybody belittling me because I dont have 2 more cylenders, STFU. I will have a zetec MTX tour for the winter, and an SVT for the summer. But sadly this wont happen for a little while, money and income is a key factor, once I start raking in some more money then things will start to pick up for me, but as for now this car gets me from home to work to friends, and I enjoy driving it. I bought this car to make myself happy, not make people look at me, not to drive fast like a jackass, its for me, and you know what I still get some headturns when I drive by, I dont know why but I have gotten people nodding at me, smiling, complements, questions, and its just a simple contour.
BTW, the paint is the same color that is on hector's valve cover, the lighting in the pictures are all fubarred. I dont plant to paint anything else that color, the rest will just be painted black, the name of the thread was a joke, obviously I wont win best engine bay for some rattle can work, but I certainly can make it look 100x better then it did look. Its a project for me, I dont care that I have to sink a couple of bucks here and there into it. I mean come on, do you guys wax your cars? do you wash them? $5 here for car wash, $20 there for wax products, no matter how you think of it ANYTHING you do to a car, any way you clean it up costs money, cars are money pits. Period. Life gets a little boring going from home to work every day, especially when you dont know anybody where you live except family, so between spending time with friends at home and being at work, I find little projects for my contour and slowly its going to look better.
im 19 years old, I make $7.30/hr and work 32 hours a week, and I have student loans. Trust me, there is plenty of time for a fast car in my life. How many people here had quick cars at the age of 19 and paid for everything themselves?

time to find a new job. i delivered subs and made an average of $150 a night. crazy good money. dumped a lot of it into the svt and still had enough left over to cover me for a good first year of college.
I also live in michigan, and spent a month finding a job, its all that was available to me and the best pay I could find. I am still looking but it helps me save money until I move into my apartment back down in Ypsilanti, there is some more higher paying jobs down there. I just started this job coming home from college, everywhere else was only hiring for part time 10-15 hours a week, and I would have to commute 20 minutes to work. at 3.60 a gallon, thats not happening.
Seriously. is anything I do not good enough? I was excited about finding a job and actually having somewhere to go every day rather then sleeping till noon and doing nothing all day. So thanks for making me feel like **** about how hard I work, I also have a side job in detailing cars for fair prices and repairing/building computers and installing networks.

dude, i'm not trying to put you down. you're a cool guy. i'm just saying... it took me a good year to find that job. i started out in the store making minimum wage. both delivery guys quit and they had no other options. my first day i did pretty good and they ended up just having me deliver everyday. i made so much money that i didnt know what to do with it all. i had no idea delivery guys could make so much
Yeah, see I was offered a delivery position at Papa John's in Midland, it was 5.15 an hour and I didnt need to claim tips. I asked a couple of my friends what it was like to deliver right now, they said they hardly make over 7 an hour on all of their tips because of gas prices. Otherwise I would have done that also.

my place paid $1 for every delivery you take. after taking around 70 deliveries a day, you go through around 1/2 a tank. plus you make the 5.15 and you make tips. it all added up pretty good

Hell, I modded my atx mystique. Its a car, you like it, then you do what you want with it. So what if people dont like what you do to it. If I cared about what people think about my cars, I woulda changed paints, exhausts, seats, and my wheels a long time ago on my mystique (and some things on my svt too). Alias great job i think it will turn out great. Do something with the zetec to standout more? Maybe paint the letters black? Or sand them down where they shine silver or something that would look different. Maybe paint them chrome?

Both bumpers are on the car, and they both look great.
im not trying to go crazy or anything with paint, the worst looking part of the car was the valve cover, and like harry suggested im going to try to brush paint the lettering and such.
The rest of the engine bay is just going to be vigeriously cleaned and maintained .
