Lately I have been having trouble with this grinding noise that seems to happen randomly and only when i am stopped and start going into 1st or Reverse. The noise is very loud and I can feel vibrations on the clutch pedal. I cant replicate the grind when I try to show someone the problem. I feel like it has something to do with the clutch springs or the linkage. I wanted to find out if anyone has had this problem and could help me figure out a way to solve it.

When it makes the noise and I can feel it in the pedal, I just push the clutch back in and put the stick into neutral and just put it back into first or reverse and it usually works fine.

This started happening awhile after my 3L build with a built up transmission. There are new forks, spec stage 1 clutch, torsen lsd, and a shop closed it up and shimmed the lsd.

I have seen issues that sound similar to mine on the forums but I have seen no answers. Please help me out if you can. I am worried that this problem is just going to get worse and damage something severely.

check your shifter cables, both underneath the shifter boot, and on the other end (in the engine bay) for worn bushings that aren't keeping them tight.

you'll need a friend to help you, if you don't know where the cables are in the engine bay (he can row through the gears while you look for the only thing moving! :) )

Not that it solves a problem per se but I find that pulling the shifter into second before going into 1st or reverse makes it easier to engage those two gears as a general rule. That's on any car and any manual trans/MTX although it might depend on the shift pattern, i.e. whether reverse is up to the left or down to the right.

Are there key slots on the bushings for the shifter cables? Also how much time do you think it will take to switch one bushing out?

Thanks for the ideas everyone
