Exhaust leak affect performance?

green SVT

Ok well I got stuck on a speed bump yesterday and pulled a part of my y-pipe out of the cat. I put the pipe back in the hole but obviously its not perfectly seal. I can hear a bit of an exhaust leak there but nothing really huge. So my PERFORMANCE question would be, with this leak, would this negatively affect my SVT's performance? Would it hurt the performance of a turbo kit, which I planning to buy in the next month or so. I guess I could get that spot welded, but right now at this moment I dont have the time to take the car to a shop.

Hmm. I would say if you can afford a turbo kit, you can afford to have that fixed.

It wont effect performance at all. I think it would just be annoying more than anything.

It's bad enough that you're considering not fixing this, but that you would consider installing a turbo kit and not fixing this... wow.

This will effect performance and fuel efficiency. It will get worse over time.

It saves money to stay on top of all repairs and maintenance items. Letting fluid and belt changes go, driving on bad suspensions, wheel bearings, etc will end up costing much more in the long run and will weaken your car.

I'm sorry, I don't mean to jump all over you, but you should really make the time to get this fixed.

Thats funny because I dont think anywhere did I say that I wasnt going to fix the leak, nor did I say I didnt want to do because of cost. I said specifically that I just dont have time. Jeez I love when people get on their soap box but obviously dont read the post before they give their sermon.

I am planning on fixing it, I just have 0 time right now for anything. (i.e. thats why I'm buying the turbo kit in the fall not now.)

suspension problems

suspension problems

well i have a 99 svt and the rear strut bearing is bad, anybody have any idea on how to change one?

???????????? Wtf are you talking about? What does that have to do with an exhaust leak? open a new thread...lol

You should be fine. Exhaust leaks can cause some problems when it is really close to the heads, but down by the main cat you should be fine. Is it in front or back of the cat? Behind the cat would be better.

Its in front, right where the two pipes go into the cat

You really will not notice any significant performance reduction. So, in the short term just drive it around and avoid those speed bumps. And try to find some time to get it spot welded.

Should be quick and cheap at any muffler shop. For stuff like that I have had very good lucky with Meineke. They didnt even charge me to spot weld some stuff when I brought it in, they probably will charge something if they have to get it up on the lift though. Get a quote BEFORE any work is done though. If they want more than 10-20 move on to the next place.

Yeah I took it to CAR-X and they wanted 50$...I just turned a walked out
