well since i got this 99 svt i dont feel any power that my 98 put out. i think my secondary valves dont kick in. i just put a new transmission and it is still doing the same thing. with my 98 once you reach like 3900rpm secondary valves kick in but on my 99 i dont feel anything. so i was wondering if you guys could help?? thanks

To test your secondaries, start your car. Pop the hood,
Find where the little lever is down on the lower intake manifold that is hooked up to your IMRC cable. it's under the throttle body.

Now find where the throttle cable goes to the throttle body. Turn that and give it some gas to get it up to where your secondaries should be opening.

Watch for that silver lever to move, if it moves your secondaries should be opening. If it doesn't move your IMRC is probably failing.

even if it DOES move, make sure that the brass rod which connects one set of linkages to the other is still there, or only one half will open..

im not sure what lever if you have a picture it would be greatful. what if it doesnt move am i in deep water lol. and thanks for helpin

the linkage that moves... there should be a small brass rod not much thicker than a clothes hanger, and it will run from the linkage you saw (which is on the firewall side) towards the bumper to the second half of your secondaries (on the bumper side). the rod is held on by small plastic grommet type bushings and they get brittle with heat and age, then crack and fall off, then your rod will fall off as well.

either verify that the rod is, in fact, there or fabricate a rod that goes from the first set to the second set.. it isn't technical.. just make sure its a metal that is strong enough not to bend/stretch, else you will end up with no secondaries on one half after a few uses.

FYI, the Ford Part # for the plastic retainer bushing for the IMRC linkage is: F5RZ-9F955-AB. I just found that one of mine had broken and fallen out. I replaced it today and WOW what a difference.

i have a linkage going from one side to the other. it does look like a coat hanger. its what moves when i rev the car over 4000rpm. and it located right under the TB. so im not sure what you guys are saying it is. i think what you guys are saying is that and i have that there. so i think ill need more help on this. thanks everyone

We were saying to VERIFY that you had movement when you rev the car, and also that the movement was opening BOTH sides of your secondaries. If that little "coat hanger" rod is there and the first half is pulling on the coat hanger (which is pulling on the second half) then your secondaries are almost guaranteed to be working.

If you still are not feeling the power you THINK you should, and don't have any check engine lights on, look in to rebuilding your UIM/LIM using the how-to in the duratec maintenance forum. check your plugs, wires, and air filter as well.

basic maintenance, really.

well its kind of hard to explain but ill try. the linkage you guys were talking about was there but there was a little connecter, connecting the linkage to the secondary valve on the other side. so i jus went to ford and bought a clip for it. and the other side of the linkage there is a spring and it was so loose it wasnt opening them all the way so i took it off and put a new spring. and now it works perfect, but the car sure needs a good cleaning inside. thank god for the people who made the HOW-TO. thanks to you guys, your great help. hope that helps

Stock Motorcraft. Many CEG members have tried aftermarket performance wires and have had problems. You made a good secondary linkage fix!
