I'm looking to upgrade the exhaust before I chip the tour...

What exhaust setups do you have on your Zetecs? can you help me out narrow one down for mine?

I'm basically looking for cat-backs and getting rid of all that back pressure that holding the engine back when I need power the most, and of course...I'm looking for the sound that "makes me feel good" ... the mean, deep engine sound...

I see a lot of you using magnaflow, some borla, glass resonators and such, what's best for this mighty Zetec?

please post pics and vids if you have any, of your upgraded Zetec exhausts...

Cheers.

if you do a search under zetec performance there was a thread not too long ago about exhausts that people have used.

i personally had a custom bent 2.5" flex joint back with just a resonated tip. it had some rasp when cold but sounded nice once warmed up. if you want to help eliminate the rasp just add a resonator where the factory one is.

stazi is doing my exhaust today i will post both. befor and after.

I have always said this.....2.25" piping, resonator, and no mufflers.

Cheaper alternative is SVT exhaust with no mufflers and the stock resonator.

I was thinking about getting the SVT exhaust. But, dumb question here, would my car pass emissions inspections without mufflers? I know MA is pretty tight on that...

Id think you should be able to pass emissions. You would just have to worry about Db levels

ok, two questions here:

1. what's the difference between a resonator and a muffler? and which is that thing in the middle of my stock exhaust setup?

2. kinda offtopic, but since i'm planning to work on my exhaust, figured i'd ask: what's the part in the exhaust just after the down pipe, it's kinda got a threaded thing goin on around the outside (damn, i'm bad at explaining thing's i don't know the words for)? it's not the catallytic converter, is it? cuz that's just below the headers, right?

Correct me if I'm wrong. The resonator is the little rectangular shape in the middle of the pipe is located almost at the front. Resonator is what make your car from stop being VERY LOUD. Muffler is if there's a tip and a little box. for question #2 i believe that's the catallytic converter. Please correct me if i'm wrong.

MY own question: So I cut off my resonator a month ago and I have a Apexi N1 muffler on with a silencer. I don't know if it too loud but does anyone know where I can test the decibles?

It's the flex pipe. The cat is part of your exhaust manifold, and it's located next to your radiator, not under the car.

Mcgarvey is right, the cat is attached to the base of the exhaust manifold, the mesh looking thing after the cat (under the engine) is a flex pipe.

As for the other two items, I believe they are both mufflers/resonators and server pretty much the same purpose. I could be mistaken hear though.

k, that's exactly as i thought, minus the flex pipe, didn't know that. so, knowing this, i'm actually considering side exit exhaust. i've spent some time under the car, and i think i can safely build an exhaust system that exits on the right side, if i have a narrow enough muffler. it may be a short while until i get to this project (pretty much throwing it on the pile!), but when i do, i'll post the best how-to ever, if it works!

1: as already stated the resonator is mounted near the middle of the car on the stock exhaust. its job is to help eliminate rasp. the muffler is at the back and its job is to actually quite the exhaust (although the resonator and pipe length will do some of that too)

2: as already stated thats the flex pipe.
