Lowering Springs Question.

I'm thinking of lowering my car for months already. But so far I think I might not anymore because I have a friend who have a Scion tC. He lowered his car with TRD springs when he got it brand new. Tire is brand new too but is been 2 months already, still rolling on stock wheels. Now his inside is wearing out and just got his camber fixed today. So my question is should I lowered my car at all? because I don't want my tire to wear out. BTW I'm rolling on 215/40/18 right now. :help:
 
should be in the suspension section but y not get your camber fix after you lower the car? any good alignment shop could do the work.
 
there was a group buy going on for upgraded camber plates for like 40-50 and depends on where you take the car as almost every shop would have somewhat of a different price. just call around most tire shops would have an alignment rack .
 
camber on the contour is not adjustable. you will need to get the camber kits for the front to be able to have the car aligned with the camber being adjusted. if the drop isnt too bad, the rears should fall within camber spec and rotating tires will help too
 
while still on the subject, i have the same question..
i just had my car lowered with eibach springs and new stock SVT struts. my front tires are pretty bad, so i will be getting new tires soon, however, i wasn't sure if i needed allignment? now i see this thing about the camber kit...is that always necessary? is it a must? where do i buy one from? any clue of how much the kit is??

You should always get an alignment after replacing the suspension. As for camber kits, it's been stated many times that sometimes you do need them and sometimes you don't. If your tires are wearing badly due to camber, you need them.

Bat struts with Eibachs here and camber fell right into spec

a mild drop shouldn't require a camber kit but some car do need it ...
 
Without adding the CC plates, the only suspension adjustments you can make are frt & rr toe. My experience has been that the rr of our cars have negative camber stock. Unfortunately with my Tours, the side to side variance at the rr was off by anywhere from .5 to a full degree. This is with stock ride height/springs. To date, there is no method of adjusting rr camber. If you lower the car more than 1 inch expect extra tire wear. It comes with the territory.
 
So w/ BAT springs (appx 1" drop) it may not be neccessary for the camber kit? I can tolerate some tire wear...

Pretty much depends on each individual car. Some people get unusual wear and some don't. Some get unusual wear with stock suspension and get a camber kit and some don't get any unusual wear. My car is dropped an inch or more and I get more inside tread tire wear than usual but still have almost 30K miles on them. When I put my D2 suspension on, the camber kit will be going on at the same time. :cool:

Yep. How much your camber changes is completely based on the amount of drop provided by said lowering spring. The lower you go, the more your wheel will tilt in towards the center of the car, thus putting more pressure on the inside edge of the tire. The only way to correct this is with a camber kit.
Camber is not necessarily a bad thing(I won't get into positive/negative camber),..it can actually be beneficial,...except for tire life of course:laugh:
 
I got the BAT euro kit and ended up needing the Camber plates, I have a 00 SVT. But it's like the guys said, it all depends on the individual car and the amount of drop. You'll have to see when you get it done if they can get it into spec, mine couldn't be done so I ordered the plates and had them installed a week later and didn't harm the tires at all granted the were not on spec they weren't tot far off.
