This one is killing me to try and figure out,but when I start the car cold from sitting overnite I can hear a bit of a whistle noise from under the hood, and the car will jump up to about 1800rpm,after about 90 seconds to 2 minutes it idles down until it almost stalls, and then runs normal-any ideas??
I previously had a CEL lite and repaired some vacuum leaks, but I can't track this one down...

Probably a gasket (UIM/LIM, IAC, TB or something related to air, not liquid). When it warms up, the metal part expands and seals the leak.

i took it in to the ford shop, and they replaced the UIM/LIM gaskets and some vacuum lines, now the car seems to idle at around 1800 rpm after coming to a stop, and takes 10 seconds or so before it idles down but only to around 1000 rpm or just under-anybody else run into this? I've been chasin this for 3 weeks now

So the Ford shop let the car go without fixing the problem? Take it back while you still have the service guarantee!

EXCEPT I DON'T WANT THEM TO KEEP IT FOR ANOTHER 2 WEEKS,SO I CHANGED THE IAC WHICH NOW BRINGS IT THE IAC TEST INTO SPEC,LOOKS LIKE I HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THE EVAP SYSTEM NOW...SO MORE TESTING TO DO YET (SIGH)

brutal-in the end-i found the problem-which was a stuck PCV valve-unbelievable,the ford one cost me less then $10 and the car now runs better then ever. (did i mention brutal?)
