tranny shifting problems

I had to pull the rad to replace the rad fan. So at that point, I had to add some transmission fluid.
A week later I had to change the water pump and almost immediately I started having shifting problems (as well as grounding problems with my power distribution box). Also, when put into Reverse, the tranny never shifts initially. It takes about a minute or more before it finally changes. If I want to go immediately, I must put it into Drive first, then go to Reverse and then it changes. And all shifting is loud and clunky.
I've been reading here about doing the work on the tranny. How big of a job would it be to change the tranny filter?

The filter is not servicable except during rebuild.

Have you had either a flashing O/D light or a CEL?

Is your fluid level now correct?

How long has it been since the fluid was changed? If not done recently, do it. You might get lucky and fresh fluid will help.

If you wiggle the shift lever a bit, can you get the tranny to shift into R (without hitting a forward gear first). Might just be a shift cable adjustment.

Plenty of other common stuff might be wrong, but need more complete descriptions and observations.

The fluid level is good. The fluid was changed almost 2 years ago (synthetic) and just had to top it up when changed the rad fan.

Before it shifted as soon as it was just over 2Gs but now it takes maybe several seconds longer then shifts very hard. It has about 169,000kms.

I tried wiggling the lever as you suggested and it did not make any difference in the shifting.

btw, thanks for your reply - greatly appreacited

id recommend changing all your fluid again(since its been 2years). the scheduled maintenance says every 30,000 miles(though i would guess thats overkill). Their is a how to around here somewhere
