I will be replacing my suspension with the BAT suspension kit and will be definately be getting the new upper strut mounts for front and rear. But I noticed in thier catalog the rotating bearings for the front. What are those? Should I replace them, or are the bearings part of the strut mounts? I feel like a dumbass asking this, but I can't find any info on this through searching. Just curious if I should buy/replace them or not.

I forget if the bearing is part of the strut mount or not. what is does is allow the suspension to turn when you turn the wheel ... on my 95 I just regreased the bearings after taking them apart

The upper bearings are not part of the strut and can be ordered seperately. I got mine from the local Ford Dealer, but I am sure you could get them anywhere.

I would probably replace them while you have it apart. On the Contour the strut is a solid piece at the bottom. Then due to the spring around the shaft the strut does not twist. So, Ford put the bearings at the top of the strut to allow the entire unit to turn. Some cars have the bearings at the bottom as part of the strut. Then the spring is stationary. Just a different way of doing it.

Check them while you have everything apart. Depending on the conditions where you live/drive you could have any of the following: the grease dries up; the roller bearings fall out; the plastic cage breaks or falls apart. They can be regreased if you're careful and you have ALL the ball bearings. Otherwise, replace with new Ford parts.

Ok, so they are different than the upper strut mounts then? I just want to order everything needed and replace all the things that can only be replaced when the struts/springs are out, as the car has 120,000 miles on it.

I know I should probably replace a lot more on the suspension, but I really only have the money for this right now.

Shopping list so far is.

im about to do the same because my upper strut mount bearing is bad because it creaks every time i turn or even if the car moves. i know this is a stupid question but i need to compress the spring in order to take the nut off from the top right? becauuse wouldnt it shoot out if i didnt?
