To Belgium. Work has decided they want to promote me to a more managerial position and part of the process is to get trained on the manufacturing process that take place over in Leuven Belgium. So I would be moving to Belgium for 3 months.

I havent been happy at all with my current position and have been looking for another job, have an interview Monday for a position i really wanted; now they threw this on my desk.

I think the only reason i would take this new job is because of the salary increase (almost double my current) and because i get to live for free in Belgium for 3 months. They will pay all my bills (credit card, car, rent etc) while in Belgium and pay for everything in Belgium (food living etc).

Wow! That's a great offer.
When would you be leaving?

I guess you've got a decision to make, a new job or Belgium for three months and then double the salary.

Do you think after training that you will like the new position?

I'm sure everything will work out for the best. Keep us posted.

Take it. Any global experience will only serve to help should you decide to look elsewhere for a new position.

Have a Duval for me please.

I would prob leave at the at the start of the year so like Jan/Feb. As far as if I would like the new job... I am just not sure. I really like the poeple i work with and i think i would love the job if i wasnt doing call center tech support. At the same time im not sure if i will like this job either. Basically my company makes dental software and surgical guides for placing impants. I would become the go between person for a dental implant company and the guide manufacturing. Basically supervise the guide production and answer very technical, medical, questions.

We will see. I was honored that my boss (general manager for the entire Unitedd States) is recommending me for the position as I am the youngest person in the company, including all of US/Canada/Europe/Asia, and one of the newest in my office. Not to mention i currently have a mohawk (LOL).

As for the duval im more of a Stella guy and i hear that in Belgium where its brewed they have a special edition that can only be bought there and its super good. Another good reason for staying in the company is the really hot belgian chick that i currently only get to meet up with a couple times a year and being neighbors with her.

that should be all you need to know to go.at least thats all they would have had to tell me

It's kinda funny, my sister and I were just talking today about how we wish we would have experienced more of the world (for us, student teaching in a foreign country). This sounds like a pretty good situation, Brett. Good luck, let us know how it goes.

Do it!
It could be a great experience for you.
And as was said, if it turns out you don't like the job, you can find something else, just like you were already going to do anyway.

after thinking about it all day i think i will take the position. Assuming of course the highups in HQ approve the position which is still kinda up in the air. The general manager thinks im perfect for the job the only thing i am missing is the clinical dental background but to be honest... These Perio / general dentist stuff is really easy. Hell i have treatment planned several implant cases already the only thing i havent done is drill into their mouth.

We will see i should know by next friday. I think its a good thing that my boss is making a special trip over there to pitch his idea and a couple other small things.

So my General manager came back and siad "we need to talk about what happened at HQ -- Good things!" Unfortunately I am in Canada at the moment but I heard from my buddy at work that i could be leaving as early as Jan 1st and be gone for 4 months. -w00t- So we are going to meet on monday and talk about it and some other issues.

I have a dumb question as this is the first time i have ever had a car loan. Do they typically require that your car has insurance. Basically i want to store my Golf up in NY and dunno if my lender will require that it has insurance of if my mothners home owners ins will cover it? Anyone know?

Most every lender will require the full boat. Liability, comprehensive, and collision. If you're just going to store the car and no one will be driving it, check out what the minimum levels are. Usually, 25/50/10 (in thousands -- driver / total for all occupants / property damage). You could also bump the collision deductible up to $1000 -- your lender is probably cool with that, though higher might cause ire.

I agree - they'll probably want you to have the full coverage on it , to protect their (possibe) interests .

Agree with that.

So what happens after the 4 months? Where in Canada are ya now?

The lender usually likes full coverage if you're driving it, but you can drop it down to just fire/theft coverage if it'll be stored.
It's pretty cheap to insure the car just for storage like that, so definitely talk to your insurance company about it.

After 4 months i become manager of manufacturing or soemthing like that. Im not 100% sure thats why i need to talk to my manager on monday.

I was in Toronto since monday and now im up in Montreal. Not knowing a lick of french is making it hard in Montreal lol. But on the plus side my room int he hotel wasnt ready so they comp'd me a bottle of champagne. w00t, its crappy but its free!

Some sh*t kinda hit the fan while i was gone. I guess some one in the office is talking **** about me to my manager and now hes "ready to fire you". Which is bull****. NOthing I have heard is true and nothing of it is even fire-worthy. I think my co-workers are just being melodramatic. Even if they are 'ready to fire me' i kinda do give to craps any more. Another one of the popel in my department quit yesterday leaving just me and this one guy who doesnt know his ass from a computer, but since his father is a VIP customer of ours he works tech support with me.

Im starting to think my sanity is worth more then going over seas. I will go talk to my manager and hear out what he has heard and make him look like an ass for believing any of it. Then if I still am #1 candidate for the position then i will list off my demands. #1 thing is i want it in writing with a gaurenteed time line. If he wont give it to me in writing ill give him my 2 weeks notice and watch the company fail.

in my sales managers own words "The company needs you more then you need this company." YOu better believe it buddy.

SO i got to work this morning and scheduled a sit down with my GM to go over everything. He tells me nothing is wrong yadda yadda he got approval to start talking to me about going over seas etc.

I guess my co workers just blew things WAAAAAY out of proportion or something because everything is good in th ehood. Now i really have to figure out what i want to do.

Basic run down: I would go to Belgium learn all there is to know about manufacturing of our surgical guides etc then be a liaison between my company and a partner company for a bit. Then they would move a new person into my position and i would be the manufacturing manager for the US/Canada and Mexico. Hmmmmmmmmm.....

BTW; i may try to sell my golf if anyone is intrested.
