I was wondering, about how much could i get for my 1999 SE. Its has 144,xxx miles, some light scratches, good tires (70% left) and runs well. No body damage, original badging still on car. i still have the original stereo and intake to put back on if wanted. I drive to school every day with 4 people in the car and my little 4C doesnt get that great millage with all those people for 25 min of freeway driving. I'm looking at getting a 2001 Mitsubishi Diamante LS. 160,xxx miles, EVERY OPTION POSSIBLE. Power everything. Alloy rims, black, no major body dents or scratches. The miles are all highway from what I hear. Its $2,900, I could prolly get it down to around $2,700. So if anyone can give me even a rough estimation on what i can get for my car, please feel free to post.

Thanks,
Jared.

Lets see...You paid what ? $2500 ? you'd be lucky to get $2000. Keep it and drive her untill she wont drive no more...

you do realize that no one will pay 4300 for a 4 banger zetec with 144,000... :nonono:

Swapping to a slightly newer car with more miles probably isn't going to be any better  If anything the Diamante may be in worse shape

Contour 144,000/8 years = 18,000 miles per year, ~65 miles per day
Diamete 160,000/6 years = 26,500 miles per year, ~96 miles per day

(days based on 50 weeks a year, 5 days a week + 26 days assuming weekend driving, one day everyother weekend = 276 days per year)

Abusive driving much???

If you're in school and need a commuter I really doubt you would want to switch to another higher mileage car. Just save to fix things as they break or for a downpayment on a newer used car.

wait wait wait

you are considering selling this car you just bought because its not getting that great of fuel economy?

you do know the 3.5L V6 gets about 18 Mpg city and if you are lucky 25 on the highway, let alone having three people in the car, you probably will hardly get 22 or 23. Hell, just get an SUV.

The zetec is a tried and true motor, ford used it from 1993 all the way until 2004, its solid.

Plus at 144K the last owner probably already went through all of the regular maitnence stuff, timing belt, endlinks brakes etc...

if you want to get a better car for cheap... Look into a mid 2000 taurus, more comfortable for a lot of people, pretty similar fuel economy, and you probably can find one with less then 100K miles for the same price as that Mitsubishi.

You have a fine car, being 17 it will cost you a lot of money and hardships to sell your car and get behind the wheel of another one.

BTW, insurance on the Mitsubishi would be more too, due to the larger motor.

one carsoup there is 2.0L 1998's going for $4300 with 155,XXX miles. So meh, i dunno.

I say good luck to that dealership. i doubt I could even sell mine with the leather interior and ST200 wheels for any more than 2 grand.

Its on my parents insurance. My tour' is getting less than 20 mpg for god knows what reason, i only drive highway. I have problems with it all the time. I do all the regular maitnence and have all records. And I kinda siad it wrong, im looking for a car LIKE the mitsu. Sedan. I'm 6'3, i do not fit well in my car, my friends dont fit well in the back because I have my seat so far back and reclined. I like this car and how it rides. This wont happen prolly till after winter. After thinking for a while, ill prolly save over the winter and gets something really nice (for me). Thanks for the input guys. Dont think I'm too much of a retard.

So your car is a SE and it has a 4 cylinder? I thought all SE's had the duratec V6.

Pre98 SE's were the SVT of the 95-97 models. they were only duratecs.

98-00 SE was the touring edition with an optional V6,

SE SPORT came with the V6 standard, and a sport suspension.

if your Check engine light is on that would explain poor gas mileage, also old spark plugs, wires, bad 02 sensor, bad fuel filter, dirty Throttle body, dirty intake manifold. Try doing the seafoam thing, I did it to my zetec and it skyrocketed my gas mileage.

I do about 75-80 on the highway constantly the highest gas mileage I have seen is 35 all highway, lowest I have seen is 23, and that was all city, Ann Arbor Stop and go traffic, balls to the wall all of the time.

I think you are seeing 20MPG because you goosing the gas pedal all of the time, good rule of thumb that I use... since you have that intake, I happen to know that the zetec gets LOUD at WOT, my rule of thumb is if you can hear your intake starting to growl, you are pushing the gas pedal too hard. it WILL make a huge difference, especially if you have a lot of people in your car. Next tank of gas, fill the thing up all of the way right to the brim, drive like an old lady,

I have to agree, if the CEL is on then you need to correct the problem. This will most likely improve gas mileage but it depends on what the code is for.

try some simple maintenance and see what happens before getting a different car.

Actually if you want to get technical 95-98 SE's had the V6 with leathter/sideskirts, etc. 98.5-00 is when everything became optional with the sport package and what have you.

OMG WHY!?!?!?!

Why cant these kind of deals come to michigan :nonono: Jesus dude, he should sell his tour and buy that.

Steeda seems to find deals like that all the time LOL. Not only that but you MI guys have like 75% of all the SVT around....ok I just made that up, but you have a lot of them. But I bought my SVT for that price with a running motor. Just has a few dings here and there that I need to get around to.

I would not go throwing three or so grand at a car with 150 or 160K miles. Just too many. If you're really set on getting out, look at something a little older with unusually low miles. In other words, use the age of the car to lower the price, not the mileage. You may end up with a gorgeous car that is unique in its originality and low odometer reading. Makes for a good conversation piece, too.
