okay so i lost my keys! went to the dealer to get a new one cut they asked if my key had a computer chip i was like i dont know. So they cut me one cheap without one. Now i relize i need one!! but since i dont have a working key if i get one with the chip how do i program it??

You need to get a blank PATS key, your car and about $100 dollars all to the stealership and they can take care of the rest. I wouls suggest getting 2 or 3 keys programmed and put one somewhere safe!

Some of the larger locksmiths have PATS capability, so you might wanna try calling them and getting a price. That would at least save you a tow. And you want to always have 3 keys, that way if you loose one you can always program another one yourself. Cheap on eBay for just the keys.

no

PATS disables the starter signal, fuel flow, etc.. without PATS accepted command, you aren't starting the car.. at least, not without a VERY trained thief.

If you have an early 98 (build date in 1997), you may only need one key to program the 2nd and 3rd keys. I wasn't sure about mine, but then the owners manual said I only needed one key to program.

That way you can have the one expensive key made (if you have to go to Ford) and get the dups cheaper.

What exactly is req'd for PATS? I assume with the serial no. and/or PCM Ford should be able to provide keys. Surely, you don't have to get the car towed to Ford....

I know that PATS system consists of the key c/w chip, sensing ring located around the igniton cylinder which has wiring running to the PCM.

It requires, as already noted, either a trip to a dealer or a visit from a well-equipped locksmith. The system requires a specific programming sequence with the proper tools and there is no work around except getting an export PCM and redoing the entire system.

Each key has an individual number imprinted electronically into it, and each PCM must be taught that each key is ok. So if you have no programmed keys, the computer WILL NOT start the engine. Good for stopping car thieves, not so good for people who have trouble loosing keys. Always keep 3 keys and youll be fine, that way when you loose one you just get another one made and program it yourself

Yes, 3 keys is the way to go. I've been meaning to add a key, but just never got around to it. I hate visiting dealerships, but the cost will be worth it (if I lose a key).

thanks guys got it fixed...245 total...gayy oh well its my own dumbass fault
