First steps for LIM removal?

So the UIM has been removed. But I'm now struggling with the first steps in removing the LIM. I'm following the how to but its a bit foggy to me. Do I need to open up the two black wire harnesses that run above the injectors? I tried poking around but couldn't seem to get them open.

I got side tracked today when my buddy came over to swap out his jeeps sway bar links.. but I'm gonna get back on the mystique tomorrow morning. I hope I can get it apart cleaned and back together before the days is done.

No, on the outside edge of the harnesses are little clips, not sure how many, but you need to put a flathead screwdriver or something in there the push the wires on the inside in, then just pull up on them with the clips pushed in.

the black harnesses are the injector harnesses.

They are "clipped" in to the top of each injector.

you need to remove/release the hold the harness has on the passenger side of the LIM and the driver's side as well.

Then once the "clips" on the harness are removed, you need to disconnect the harness from each injector by pressing in on the copper bar at each injector.

remove the wiring harness, and lay it to the side, then remove the LIM by unscrewing the bolts that mount it to the block.

Note that steps 20 and 21 for fuel rail removal are not necessary for LIM removal. Just unplug the injectors. We did not remove the fuel rail when we had our meet 2 years ago. The fuel rail will just "hang" there. You just have to manoueve the LIM out slowly.

Yet another LIM removal question

Yet another LIM removal question

-Wire harness is out of the way.
-Residual fuel pressure is releived.
-IMRC linkage disconnected at front set of ports. (need to order a new grommet monday).
-I removed 4 8mm bolts that appear to retain the injectors and fuel rail. The HOWTO states there is 7. I can't see the other 3. However the rail appears loose and only retrained by the injectors which are in turn retained by the LIM.

I'm thinkin my fuel rail is a differnt design then the one in the HOWTO and the HAYES manual. Is that possible?? I looks differnt to me. I have posted some photos: http://picasaweb.google.ca/jca1980/CAR

I can wiggel the rail back and forth.
I can't see any fuel injector retainers. I'm really confused here? Might the whole assemby just "pull" out?

I should point out its a '98 mystique LS

we left the injectors on iirc because the o-rings bill jenkins sent were the incorrect size. No special tools needed except for the tool to disconnect the fuel rail lines. This was done like 2 years ago almost so my memory may be a little rusty..Tony (csvt1214) did most the work that night on my car.

also after your done with all this, make sure you have the right wiring sequence and etc..lol

That style does have 4 (iirc) bolts.. the two inner ones you can see and two more, on the outer opposite edges.

if you can rock the rail back and forth, the injectors themselves are likely holding it (and rather snugly, too, might I add)

Ah ok. I was lifting with a little pressure but not to much. For fear of snaping something. To should I expect the injectors to release from the fuel rail or the LIM first?

probably half and half.. lol.

I've had rails pull all the injectors, and I've had some stay..

Try to pop one injector out (either from the rail, or the other end) and that will GREATLY reduce the strength it takes to remove the rail. Their (injectors) collective holding power is one of those "total is greater than the sum of the parts"...
