Water pump opinions

I put on a BAT water pump. It's still doing it's job so I can't compain. It seems to be well made

My only beef with it is that it was made in Japan ( or at least mine was) :nonono:

 I'll trade you my American plastic one

I got mine from NAPA. We installed it right after we bought the SVT in 04, 13,000 miles ago. No issues so far.

I got one with metallic impeller and gaskets from NAPA brand new uninstalled. If interested, please let me know. I probably can take a picture too.

I pulled my original water pump at 50K miles and installed the NAPA metal impeller pump as preventative maintance.

It turned out my original pump has a white plastic impeller and from what I've read the black plastic was the type that didn't hold up.

Well, the NAPA pump seal just started leaking at 140K, so I put the original back on and will keep my fingers crossed that the car makes it to 200K.

My Napa pump was installed at about 70k and started leaking around 110k on the Sport, and I've heard of several other similar stories. It's a slow leak so I've just been topping off the coolant monthly, but I think I'll may go back to the revised OEM. The pump would probably outlast the rest of the car at this point.

I installed a white plastic impeller WP from NAPA (not sure what brand) 13k miles ago. No leaks yet.

I plan on purchasing a metal impellar water pump from BAT. Is anyone morally oppossed or has had a bad experience with one?

I got that one a while ago... and several months later, I started hearing a scraping noise from the w/p. The reducing cone (see pinned thread at the top of this forum) had come loose. I ended up getting the entire assembly from Bill J (w/p, housing, 2 primary hoses)... which is what I've been recommending ever since. I don't believe anyone has ever had a white plastic impeller fall apart.

The white plastic impellar should do just fine. That's what I have on my car, and its still original with 240,000+ miles on it. I do keep my engine RPM's low, which I think reduces stress and helps the impellar's longevity.

Not one failure to my knowledge either. Seems to be a good part.

has anyone got or tried the electric water pump ?

Yes, there have been a few. The nightmares haunt them still... :nonono:

As far as I can tell from my reading the electric water pumps have a 100% failure rate. The Vortec of engine cooling.

Disclaimer - I have not specifically done any research on electric water pumps. This is just what I've read from parusing the forums.

In regards to the white impeller...

...
That is correct.

The few times when there were issues after the white impeller were installed were due to the cone in the housing coming loose. That could happen whether it were black, white or metal impellers.
