How to never get photo speeding tickets.

I can reach 170 w/ ease... all you have to do is drive up a really high mountain road and on the way back down drive off a cliff.

well around here we have cameras setup on our automated tollbooths, so if you drive through without a ezpass thingy, it snaps a photo of the driver and front and rear plates.

now I use to work in road design and we put up the first highspeed automated tollway lane in the state [army trail road toll on I-355 outside chicago]. Anyways these cameras had never been used, and we needed to verify that they worked at high speed [before opening the road to the public]. Anyways, I got chosen to test them because people inaccurately thought my cougar was the fastest car in the lot, but I probably was the least payed so I seemed like a good choice. So these cameras are rated for 90mph [in most weather]. Even at 115ish in some pretty strong rain managed to snap perfect photos.

but if you want to know the easiest method of beating those automated toll lanes, just drive down the center of 2 lanes and the electronics cant pick you up.

Knowing damn well I work right there you're gonna give me some foolish ideas to play around with.....

You suck Terry!!!!

Thanks for that little tidbit of information Terry. It might be useful someday.

I was always scared to try the between the lanes thing because I thought with my luck both lanes would pick me up and charge me twice.

How do the toll booth cameras work?

I drive by a 50Km/h speed camera nearly every day, noticed that there are 2 sensors in the road going across each lane separated by a distance of like half a meter. Obviously it determines your speed by calculating the time it took you to hit the 2nd sensor after activating the first.

However, each lane is staggered... IIRC, the outside lane's sensors are farther away from the camera than the inside lane's.

At an expo I went to, they had a company there that sold speed cameras. Their booth was set up with 2 speed cameras zoomed in to each lane of a normal sized slot car track with 2 little slot cars with tiny license plates on the front of them. On the other side of the track was one of those places where the cars switch lanes.

When the cars would go past the speed camera, the software the cameras report to would show the entire image captured on the left half of the screen. The right half of the screen was divided into 4 squares, which would progressively be cropped to what the software decided was the license plate, all the way down to where just the numbers on the plate were shown.

Pretty cool, IMO!

10 or 15 years ago they tried the speed cams around southern Ontario.

Rumour had it if you were going faster than 264km/h (about 165 mph) you could beat the camera.

Some goof on a sport bike tried it.

Cost him over a thousand dollars in fines, court fees and his license for a year.
