i own a 95 zetec 5speed with 137k miles. a few weeks ago, my dad forgot to put his truck in gear, and it drifted, busted up my turn signal and dented my hood like crazy. before that he put a big dent above my passenger front wheel when he moved my other car with the passanger door open and it scraped my contour. and also like 2 years ago i was at a party and i had to move my car, i was drunk and i let a girl do it (whoops) so she scraped a bronco and put a long dent in my back passanger door.

so my car doesnt look great. it runs perfect, making nice power (for a zetec) getting 35 MPG, mechanically runs perfect i take good car of it and i know itll last awhile yet.

i have a few extra G's and im moving out (away from my dad) and wanna do something. should i fix up my zetec, or sell it and buy a duretec?

i was thinking, new door from junk yard + carbon fiber hood + pound out/fill in above-wheel dent + paintjob = its looking nice again.

or i could sell it for like maybe 500-1000, and buy a duretec for 2000-3000. im not going to be driving 300 miles a week anymore, maybe like 50-75, so gas mileage wont effect me much now.

what should i do? fix up my zetec, or buy a duratec?

Since you wouldnt get much selling it anyways, you might as well just leave it as is since it runs great and gets good gas mileage. Maybe keep saving up for a SVT. Ive seen some go for about $3000.

after i pay next semesters tuition, ill still have like 5-6 grand, so i could get an svt, i wanna save up, but its always in the back of my mind.

i know i could get a new door for under 50, CF hood for like 200(or regular hood for cheaper), good paintjob (was thinking black or sky blue) for like 100-150.

about how much would it run me to get the dent fixed?

it would cost you 150 bucks to spray paint it:laugh:

and actually looks pretty good, with your skills.

i am the spray paint master:laugh: you should see when im not rushed yo!!!
(now post a pic of the sideskirts or im gonna punch you in the head .....with my foot)

You could possibly get a replacement bone-yard fender, door, hood in the same color as your car for fairly cheap. If you can't find one in your color locally, try car-parts.com and have the parts shipped to you.

Considering where gasoline prices will be going I would suggest you keep the Zetec for a few more years, and pocket the 5-6 grand for a rainy day - especially considering you want to move out on your own. Appartment first/last/security, utility deposits, furniture, insurance and other expenses... You get the point, keep the money for later to make it easy on yourself when you need it.

where are you getting a good paint job for a hundred bucks

i have friends going to school for auto collision, id just pay for the paint, maybe slip em a few bucks for doing it, but they can do it at school.

we already payed the deposites and all that jazz, and dont need much more furniture, im actually moving in tomarrow. rent is only 230/month, maybe 275 after utilities. and i make like 800-1600 a month after taxes sometmies more, sometimes less (changes alot from paycheck to paycheck... waiters) so money really isnt a problem, i think im just gonna hit up the junkyard this spring, and just keep searching ebay in the meantime =)

Keep the Zetec, fix the body, turbo or supercharger, suspension, and brakes. Brakes would be my first choice, then suspension, then if you have the money, a custom turbo kit, and a good tune.

I think you should look for an SVT for the range you posted...

They're out there. I'll be selling mine sometime in the spring somewhere in that range.

i dunno, i dont really wanna spend money on a turbo, and i dont wanna make an svt my daily driver and put a bunch of miles on it. honestly i just want something that looks nice, that you dont see it everywhere, and can park it at the back of a parking lot without looking retarded.

and i think my little contour has potential, without the dents and a new paintjob, and maybe SE/SVT bodykit, i think it could be a car like that.

heres what it looks like now (the good side that doesnt have any dents/scratches, haha)
