It's snowing in my car.

So every time I turn on the defroster, little black flakes come out of the vents onto my dash. They are wafer-thin, and almost look to be from a foam-rubber type of material. Any ideas of what this could be or why it is doing this?

Yea, these cars have a black/dark brown thin padding hidden everywhere... There must be some under the dash and it has deteriorated and blows up through the vents... I know I find chunks of it randomly in my car :shrug:

No, just trying to thaw out from fixing the locks in my doors, LOL...

I say no worries...

My car does the same - I just leave the defroster on high for a long time and most of the HVAC boogers come out.

Had a couple 1994 SHOs that did this once in a while, though it didn't create the snow globe effect you're talking about -- just a few pieces of oily foam here or there. No sweat.

WIERD! I have been noticing this exact same problem, and figured it was either an antifungal paint treatment inside the ducts starting to flake off, or some buildup of grime in really thin layers.
