if anyone was browsing a few weeks ago in the problems/troubleshooting and was wondering what the outcome was of the "great lakes dragaway" post, the problem ended up being the input shaft.

Many thought that it was differential, or other things, sadly this was what it was. And according to a mechanic that i brought it to, he says he cant just change the input shaft, but must rebuild the entire transmission. HOw crappy! transmissions dont just grow on trees!

Ug, anyway, im wondering if anyone has any idea on who or where to check for transmissions maybe on ebay, or a particular business that works well with contour transmissions. The mechanic i have it at right now doesnt seem to be thrilled at all to even think about starting to work on it... letalone even find a used transmission.. i dont want to think of putting a new one in the price makes me want to kill things..

any help would be great thanks!

the car is a 98CSVT DOHC w/ 130,000 and runs (or ran) perfect!

Did you strip the teeth? I've never heard of that happening. Have the mechanic show the issue and take pics and post it. Sounds like the mechanic might be taking you for a ride. I know of 2 transmission for sale but I would have Terry go over both of them before install. I wouldn't trust an MTX-75 rebuild to too many people other than him. He's in Rockford, MI BTW.

I saw them on either SP motorsports website or CTA motorsports website. They have them on speacial because they bought a bunch in bulk. You may want to check them out. Good luck.

Similar deal with me... Bought my SVT with a dealer warranty, later finding out it doesn't cover 1/2 the stuff on the car! The warranty company chose this mechanic that ran a tranny shop out of his garage to take it out/apart so they could inspect it. The inspector saw the Quaife and voided my warranty. Got my $2K back from the dealer and sent it to Terry to rebuild it.

Since the dude already had the car in his storage area, I just had him reinstall the TH build.

When I picked the car up, dude said it was the first and last V6 Contour he was going to work on!

I did have a mechanic told me that the V6 Duratec is so difficult to work on and he does not too many of business from Contique/Cougar owners.

 It's not a UFO.

Farking word!

SVTdood....if i had the space i would love to help you out. My labor rate is aobut a quarter that of the usual mechanic garage and i know what i'm doing so hours are kept to a min. as well.

If you're able to waite till spring ican help you out with a trans install and all that good stuff, however the shop is full with three builds for the winter.

I will echo the statement of Todd.....go to Terry. He re-built/upgraded my trans for me early this year nad i couldn't be happier with the price/performance.

thanks guys

thanks guys

yea, i finally called the mechanic today ask him what his deal was. originally he said he couldnt find any transmissions in the first place which scares me , cause im not a mechanic, and if a mechanic cant even find a tranny, how in the world could i?!!!

anywhoo, i was like whats the deal, he said he found two trannys, first one he found had 100,000miles on it for $200.00 and another with 30,000miles for $900.00. So of course i go for the less mileage one, hoping things go well and that the mechanic doesnt eff with me.

i wondered at first why they didnt just get a new input shaft, but apparently from people i've talked to you want to redo the whole tranny cause the rest of it might as well be replaced as long as their that far in. i dont know what to think.

anyway the whole job is going to cost $1400.00 plus tax which isnt fun when you're about to move! i wish i could take pictures to show you guys what actually went wrong, ill see what i can do. anyway point of the story is, im never going to the track again! ha, for now...

buy the one for 200, buy a LSD, and new shift forks. a focus shift tower, send it to terry haines, have it all installed, and do the swap yourself. for the same price you will have an upgraded tranny with a LSD and tight shifting :) thats what i shoulda done....

That is a shame. I just sold my fully buiilt transmission with focus shift tower and only 900miles for the price of a Torsen LSD .

It didn't have a Torsen though... did it!?!

I bought a used fidanza light weight flywheel, steeda short throw shifter, and rebuilt trans with a Torsen LSD for my SVT all for $700... and I sold my stock trans with 123,000 miles on it for $300! I would never buy a stock trans for $900 even if it was new!

Yes it did have a Torsen. The new buyer will be picking it up this week.
