Is there any pattern to bad water pumps? I have a '94 V6 Mystique (mfg in '94).

Mike

You have a 95 V6 Mystique, Manufactured sometime in 94.

the "pre-98 (95,96,97, SOME early 98s)" pumps were affected.

They are black plastic impellars. The improved WHITE plastic impellars are not brittle like the black ones.

Edit: the GOOD news is that you can replace it in less than 10-15 minutes. hand-strength belt tensioner.. 8 bolts (IIRC) on the housing and off it comes.. tada.

Maybe you can do it in that time but I think it takes longer than that. Maybe if you don't care about the coolant spilling all over by not opening the radiator drain that time is possible. Plus the hoses with the factory clamps? 15 minutes is fast.

there are no hoses to remove unless you are repalcing the housing, drain coolant, remove drive belt, remove water pump .... you can also remove the battery if you need more space but it isn't needed ...

With a V6 ATX, you need at least 2 hours to replace the WP. Remove battery, battery tray (this itself is about 15 minutes), WP gasket, work around the transmission, and then, of course, you also want to change the thermostat as you are already there. Don't forget the "backflushing" and locating and piecing the broken pieces together to ensure that you got all the broken pieces out.

hey gracias for the info, i've done so much work on this i indeed will do the best water pump replace!!

I'll clarify... I stated 15 minutes, but you have to read the context of my post... I mentioned a hand-tight tensioner and 8 bolts.. this was referring to the impellar only..
