Keeping it in the NE-CEG family

Hah! I thought it was the trunk latch lock (or whatever you call it). Very common problem on the boards it seems.

Yeah, I never even knew what the switch was there for all these years. I moved mine to the lock position, popped the trunk with the remote no problem. Of course I didn't bother to try the release in the car.

I thought it was just Ford trying to screw with my head.

If you pop off the black plastic covering in the trunk, you'll notice there are two cables that latch is attached to. One goes to the interior trunk release, one goes to the key lock. The remote control solenoid is attached to that latter cable (makes sense, since your keyfob is usually next to your key anyway). Kind of a cool way to set it up. I think my Maxima doesn't work the same since the interior trunk release is on the driver's door and just sends a signal to the same solenoid that the keyfob activates, so if I deactivate the interior latch it will probably deactivate my remote too.

The more you know :dizzy:

what courtesy lights do you need?
i can check the yard up here for you.
and by dash bezel you mean the black plastic around the guages?
i can look for that to

The courtesy lights on the bottom of the front doors. Only Mystiques have it.

Yeah, I need the trim around the gauges. It has to be from a 95-98 Mystique. 98.5-00 is not the same. They switched over to the standard Contour style. I don't need the clock or defroster attached to it if they want more money for it. Just the trim and screw hole caps on it.

Thanks man

Dang, you tryin' to make me feel guilty about selling the Mystique? :D :D :D

1. Interior lights turning on now with doors. Not actually sure what caused it.

Yeah, that was always a mystery. The interior lights would work with the remote, but not when you opened the door manually. After I disconnected/reconnected the battery one time, the lights would work. I think I chalked up the mystery to some funky wiring from the aftermarket anti-theft system.

3. Trunk light pulled from my parts car and put in. I can see in the trunk at night now.

Haha, I preferred to feel my way around the trunk.

4. Trunk release handle working now. The switch was flipped inside the trunk. So Po, how long have you been opening the trunk with the key because of that?

Oh... <puts on dunce cap> I locked my keys underneath the trunk lid one time, i.e. closed the trunk lid on them. Fortunately, one of the rear seats was down and I had a set of metric wrenches in the trunk. I had to crawl in thru the back seat and unbolt the trunk from the hinge to rescue my keys. This was all done in the parking lot at Costco, so you can imagine how many funny looks I got. I remember playing with some orange/red painted switch... that must've been it.

5. Replaced blown front door speaker with one of my stock SVT speakers. Sounds 1000 times better now.

Yeah, I'm not a car audiophile... home audiophile, yes, but car audiophile, no.

8. Doors greased up and smooth now. Could barely open the rears and all my neighbors could hear them a mile away before.

BTW, what do you use as a grease for those hinges?

I went to the junkyard for the dash bezel and courtesy lights but they had no Pre-98 Mystiques.

FEEL MY PAIN!!!

New trunk struts, headlights, license plate frame, battery coming soon.

I was doing some cleaning yesterday and realized that I forgot to hand over to you the ashtray and a 98.5-00 front license plate frame. There's one fewer screw hole for the 98.5-00, and I think the two screw holes on the 98.5-00 are in different locations. Meh . I'll send both down when I get a breather.

It doesn't look like the outter tie rods were the problem with the steering now. They both look fine. Problem is coming from farther inside the steering rack.

Are you referring to the slight 'clunk' when you turn the wheel slightly to the left or right?

I took the Mystique out tonight to run some errands and I love it. Very smooth and comfortable to drive.

I thought the Mystique was supposed to be Ed's car... have you usurped it? ;) Have you found out where the brake fluid leak is coming from? As I'm hopping behind the wheel of my now-daily-driver V-8 (undersquare cylinder) T-bird, I'm realizing that the oversquare Zetec is pretty smooth.

I saw from the USPS tracking site that you sent the plates back... still haven't received them, though. Argh. Hopefully the delay is just due to the Veterans Day holiday.

hey I hav ethat happening also, when sitting still and you turn the wheel left or right there is this clunk noise, it hasn't affected anything so I don't worry about it an never really notice it ...

Tony the door curtosy lights are $25 a peice new for the lens, I just had to replace one myself ...

Nah, no guilt.

That's possible. I couldn't figure it out either. But it is working fine now. So we'll see.

That sucks! I did that too once, except worse for me. I was pulling a trunk lid off a Pre-98 Tour at the junkyard and the trunk was locked, keyhole busted, cable not releasing. I had to rip down the seats as much as I could, squeeze into a tiny hole, feel around in the dark and slowly unbolt the trunk.

Yeah, I'm not a car audiophile... home audiophile, yes, but car audiophile, no.

I'm not really either. That speaker was killing me though.

BTW, what do you use as a grease for those hinges?

Lithium all-purpose grease from Wal-Mart. Spread it on with a butter knife.

FEEL MY PAIN!!!

Yeah, hopefully Elky finds one for me. I posted in the classifieds to see if anyone has one.

Sweet! I was wondering about the ashtray. The full flip down door trays are rare so I'll never find one. I'll see what I can do with the plate frame.

It's not really a clunk, but there is a short distance turning left and right that have no affect on moving the actual tires. The wheel just rocks side to side. Not a big deal though.

Well it is for him, but I'll be doing all the maintenance stuff on it mostly. He could care less about cars entirely. If it starts up, and moves, that's good enough for him. Doesn't need a radio, heat, windows, doors......

Yeah, I think it's the holiday. You should get them soon.

Yeah, I know. I looked it up last night on Team Ford. I need both, and I cant see paying $50 for 2 little lights. I'm willing to wait for some good one from the junkyard.
