I don't want to offend, but I've heard that despite their prodigious handling, RX-8s are kinda slow. That accurate?

i wouldn't say pretty slow. but not fast either. they're good all around preformers. just most people hear rx8 and think rx7...they're different machines.
drop those boat anchors they call rims for something lighter and your car will feel much better off the line. perhaps some rx7 fd rims...can't beat 13.8lb oem goodness

i love the look of those cars. great design. yours looks awesome. like the color. however i wish they had a different engine. i think the miata 4 banger would make it go faster, be more reliable and more fuel efficient. the supercharged miata 4 banger that is. and it would actually have torque. if there is a swap for that i would have an RX-8 in a heartbeat. they are pretty but i just hate that engine.

i'd hate to see you put that car into a wall.
greddy turbo kit for $4500 gets you 300rwhp and plenty of torque. but as i said, mid 14's is plenty fast.
FYI, my last car made 435 rwhp.... so if i wanted a super fast straightline car, i would have kept that.
my melon fits fine.
